In the new trailer for Morbius, the new movie of Sony starring Jared Leto, we see several references to Venom and to the world of Spider-man. Find out the details in this note!
Sony Pictures released a new movie trailer Morbius, which is based on a well-known villain from Spider-man: the doctor Michael morbius, interpreted by Jared Leto. In the video we can not only see what is to come in this origin story, but also various references and connections with Marvel.
The film focuses on the Dr. Michael Morbius, a scientist with a rare blood disease, desperately seeking a cure for himself and other people who suffer from the same. With a dangerous treatment in which he uses bats, he apparently heals himself, but in reality this leads him to become a type of vampire, with super-human abilities and an insatiable desire to drink blood.
Morbius He can be both a villain and a hero, and in this film we will see how the line between these two extremes is broken and we will discover which path our protagonist will choose, good or evil?
The film directs her Daniel Espinosa and they take care of the script Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless. The cast is made up of: Matt Smith (Doctor who) What Loxias Crown, Adria Arjona (Good ommens) What Martine, Morbius’s wife, and Jared Harris (The Terror) as your mentor. Too Al Madrigal, Tyrese Gibson and Michael Keaton, who will return as Adrian Toomes, or better known as The vulture on Spider-Man: Homecoming.
References to Spider-Man and Venom:
Now let’s talk about the universe of Sony and Marvel It seems that it does not stop expanding. The trailer for Morbius confirms that the movie will connect with Spider-man, Venom and the MCU. We do not specify before which Spider-Man we speak because there are references so much of Toby Maguire, like Andrew Garfield and Tom holland. We are going to detail them one by one:
Oscorp
The first one that appears is in one of the aerial scenes that show us the city of New York. In this we can see the building Oscorp, that although the building is not the same as the one in the movies, the company logo is the same as the one we see in the film directed by Marc Webb: The Amazing Spider-Man 2. In this saga Andrew Garfield he is the one who plays our arachnid friend.
Daily bugle
This is a great one because it comes with more than one reference. In this scene Michael morbius read the news in the newspaper Daily bugle which, as we well know, is run by the iconic JJ Jameson and it is typical of the saga of Spider-man, starring Toby Maguire. Keep in mind that it also appears in the movies of Venom. So far we are going well. If we see the news at the top, we can read that there is talk of Rhino and Black Cat.
Both characters appear in the second film of The Amazing Spider-Man. Rhino, interpreted by Paul giamatti, is one of the villains featured in the film, a Russian mobster in a huge mechanical rhino suit. Black cat on the other hand, it did not appear directly, but we saw Felicia Hardy (Felicity Jones) as assistant to Harry Osborn. It is she who, in the future, would become the well-known anti-heroine of the arachnid universe
San Francisco
In this scene we see that the agent Rodriguez, interpreted by When Madrigar, tells Tyrese Gibson, who plays the role of Simon Stroud, that “They haven’t had a thing like that since San Francisco”. In that city the events of both films of Venom, although we do not yet know what they refer to in the trailer, we assume that it is a relationship to what happened in Venom: Let There Be Carnage.
Spider-Man graffiti
A scene in which it appears Jared Leto On the street or in some kind of alley, we see on the wall a graffiti of Spider-man which, from what we see of the suit, is that of Toby Maguire. However, above the drawing the word murderer is written, this can be related to that of Tom holland, the events that occur in Spider-Man: Far From Home with Mysterio and what we can get to see in the next movie Spider-Man: No Way Home.
The vulture
There is not much to clarify in this scene. It is a direct reference since we see Michael Keaton, who plays the Vulture on Spider-Man: Homecoming, what does he say to Morbius they should be in touch.
Venom
Finally we have another direct reference and it is the final scene of the trailer, where Morbius, when asked who it is, he answers that it is Venom. Then he clarifies that he was joking and corrects himself “Dr. Michael Morbius, to serve you”.
With all these references we can ensure that the expansion of the worlds of Sony and Marvel It is bigger than we expected. Let’s remember that we are not far from the premiere of Spider-Man: No Way Home, where we will see more of spiderverse and maybe we’ll have more clarity as to the many loose ends out there.
While the premiere of Morbius It was planned for this year, the film had several delays due to the pandemic, and when choosing what to launch first, Sony prioritized the second installment of Venom. Luckily you don’t have to wait long, since Morbius It will be available in theaters in January 2022.
