Depending on the version of OneNote you’re using right now, you’ll likely need to make a major change next year.
If you are not using it on a regular basis, surely you have ever used OneNote from Microsoft, a digital notepad that allows us to organize any data between devices, writing down ideas, keeping track of meeting class notes and almost anything, an application that you can have through the Microsoft Store or through the Office suite.
Well, this will be over in the next few months, because Microsoft is going to unify both applications so that they carry a development in unison, and the one that definitely seems to end up disappearing is OneNote for Windows 10, that is, the one that is downloaded from the Microsoft Store.
Apparently, and it will not be a change that we see until mid-2022, the OneNote application from the Microsoft Store will eventually disappear, inviting users to switch to the OneNote application from the Office suite.
If you are using the OneNote for Windows app from the Microsoft Store you will receive a notice next year where you will be invited to try the Office suite application, which is exactly the same, but it will come renewed.
And it is that the OneNote application of the Office suite is going to change almost completely, not only the appearance, but also some exclusive functions inherited from Windows 11 such as writing with a smart pen and different new options.
On a support page, Microsoft clarifies what you should and what you should not do right now. If you currently use the OneNote application from the Office suite, you should not do anything, just wait for the big update to come in the middle of next year and download it.
If you are using OneNote for Windows 10 you should not do anything either, for now, since until the update is finished you will not receive a notice to switch to the other OneNote application.
From Microsoft they quote us in the middle of next year to be able to see all these changes, and they affirm that “We are excited about the future of OneNote and look forward to hearing your feedback to make this app the best place for your notes.”.
