microsoft is giving video game developers Xbox Series S more control over memory on the consolewhich could mean two things: that the company is thinking of creating an improved Series S or that the different users of the current device will enjoy higher performance in the future.
As a website reports TheVergethe Redmond company released a new Xbox software development kit, which frees up more memory for developers to access Xbox Series S games and boosts performance on certain titles.
The team of Microsoft GameDev shared a video on his YouTube channel to explain the updates: “Hundreds of additional megabytes of memory are now available to Xbox Series S developers”.
“This gives developers more control over memory, which can improve graphics performance under limited memory conditions”, they added.
The limitations of the Xbox Series S
The Xbox Series S is the best option in the console market in terms of value for money. For 299 dollars on average, a value that can vary in different countries, the computer can run games in 1440p and up to 120fps, but many video games only go up to 1080p and the higher frame rates of the big brother, the Series X.
Microsoft’s bigger and more powerful Xbox Series X comes with a lot more GPU power, but also has 16GB of RAM, while the smaller Xbox Series S only has 10GB. Developers have to work with around 8GB of memory on the Series S, as the system reserves around 2GB for software tasks.
Microsoft also “resolved an issue where graphical virtual addresses were being allocated significantly slower than non-graphical virtual addresses,” meaning Xbox games can now take better advantage of other recent memory improvements.
