Throughout its history within the Olympic tournament, Mexico has collected a total of 69 medals: 13 gold, 24 silver and 32 bronze. The truth is that with three bronze medals and a few days after the end of these Olympic Games, this could be the poorest harvest in the recent past for the country.
This happens even when Mexico is among the Latin American nations that participated in this sporting event with the largest number of athletes.
At least this is what the data presented in the graph of the day reveals where, with data provided by Statista where it is indicated that the Mexican delegation of Olympic athletes was the third with the largest number of athletes by adding 163, among all the Latin countries that participated.
In this sense, Mexico was only surpassed by only Brazil (302 athletes) and Argentina (177 athletes), leaving three to Colombia (71), Cuba (69) and the Dominican Republic (63).
With this number of athletes, without a doubt for Mexico it was an important opportunity to develop diverse alliances around sponsorships.
However, we cannot forget that Tokyo 2020 was a competition totally framed in controversy, which reduced business opportunities.
Let us remember that with data from Ipsos extracted after surveying more than 19 thousand 510 adults in 28 countries between May 21 and June 4 of this year, it is estimated that in general terms, worldwide 57 percent of countries say against that this sporting event takes place given the health conditions.
Specifically, it is estimated, for example, in South Korea 86 percent of people say against the holding of the Olympic fair. In this same sense, 78 percent of people in Japan responded, while in Brazil the percentage rose to 68 percent.
For the United States the figure reaches 48 percent, while for Spain the figure reaches 53 percent in disapproval.
Thus, for example, the rejection of the event due to the growing number of infections in the host country Coca-Cola decided to withdraw all BTL activations and other physical actions that were planned to participate in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
In the same way, Toyota, which was launching itself as one of the great sponsors of this edition of the Olympics, stopped all its television guidelines around the aforementioned event.
These conditions, as well as the poor harvest of medals, gave the patricians an unflattering result around the most controversial Olympics of recent times.
