The cryptocurrency wallet MetaMask Stops Supporting Wyre Crypto Payment Platform Services Amid Reports Wyre Plans to Shut Down Operations Soon.
MetaMask took to Twitter on January 5 to announce which has removed Wyre from its mobile aggregatorwhich allows users to buy cryptocurrencies directly through their digital wallet.
“We are currently working on removing the extension and appreciate your patience,” MetaMask said.asking users not to use Wyre on the mobile aggregator.
According to the announcement, MetaMask still supports a large number of other payment gateways, including Transak, MoonPay, and Sardine. Services are available in Apple Pay, bank cards and transfersMetaMask noted.
The news comes shortly after Wyre CEO Ioannis Giannaros reportedly announced to employees that the firm is closing down operations soon..
“We will continue to do everything we can, but I want everyone to prepare for the fact that we will have to close the business in the next few weeks,” said Giannaros.
MetaMask did not immediately respond to Cointelegraph’s request for comment. Wyre did not respond to several press inquiries from Cointelegraph.
Founded in 2013 in San Francisco, Wyre is a major crypto payment firm that was on the brink of being acquired for $1.5 billion last year.. In April 2022, American e-commerce startup Bolt agreed to acquire Wyre. In the midst of the huge cryptocurrency bear market of 2022, Bolt ultimately opted to scrap the deal in September.
