- All general practitioners aspiring to a specialty must take and pass this test.
- Its current structure is made up of 280 items made up of multiple-choice clinical cases.
- ENARM 2023 offers 18,529 places, although there are some specialties that cover almost half of the available spaces.
A characteristic of National Examination of Aspirants to Medical Residencies (ENARM) 2023 is that not all specialties offer the same number of places. In fact, there are some that monopolize most of the available spaces. While others only offer a minimum number of places for those interested in continuing their professional training.
Despite criticism, it is a test that generates strong interest among general practitioners. In fact, for this edition there were a total of 47,246 applicants who went to the official headquarters to compete for a place.
But although the competition is very strong, it is not enough to obtain a high score because there are few places within the hospitals to accommodate residents.
Based on official information published by the Interinstitutional Commission for the Training of Human Resources for Health (CIFRHS)on this occasion they will be offered 18,529 spaces to continue with the preparation towards the specialty.
ENARM 2023, which specialties offer the most places?
Now, when analyzing the official document it is observed that there are some specialties that stand out from the rest. Due to their role in patient care, they are considered the most important and for which more personnel are required.
- Family Medicine – 2,580
- Emergency Medicine – 2,286
- Internal Medicine – 2,167
- General Surgery – 1,877
- Anesthesiology – 1,847
Together, the five specialties mentioned make up almost half of the total available spaces. Although in no way should you make the mistake of believing that they are the easiest or where there is a greater chance of obtaining a space.
In the same way that they offer thousands of places, they are also the ones that have the most interested doctors. Therefore, the competition is just as strong as in the rest of the 27 direct entry options.
On the other hand, it is necessary to remember that in recent editions modified the way of choosing a specialty in the test. Conventionally, this step was done before taking the exam. However, now it is done after the test and when each candidate knows their final score.
Based on this modification, it is suspected that some general practitioners may change their decision at the last minute. In some cases they do not choose the specialty they want but rather those for which a lower score is requested.
