Warner Bros. Pictures has been brutally sued because of Matrix Resurrections. We tell you the details about what happened.
Village Roadshow Entertainment going to sue Warner Bros. Pictures for breach of contract when premiering on streaming Matrix Resurrections. The film subsidiary is an Australian-based production company that has had a long-standing partnership with the studio and has worked on some of its biggest films. Some famous titles, for example, are american sniper, joker or Matrix resurrections. The latter was one of the most anticipated projects of last year, as it brought back lana wachowski and the stars Keanu Reeves Y Carrie-Anne Moss.
Matrix Resurrections was released in theaters and hbo max last December 22. It received very lukewarm reviews, both from the public and the press. The film had a rather disappointing box office run. It barely reached 40 million in the United States and 150 million worldwide. This makes it the worst film in the film franchise in terms of revenue. However, it reached the number of fourth best premiere in the first weekend on HBO Max, only behind Mortal Kombat, Godzilla vs Kong Y Suicide Squad. It is likely that the decision to release simultaneously in theaters and streaming has motivated these poor data. And that’s why Village Roadshow has decided to take legal action against Warner.
A lawsuit with very serious accusations
As reported The Wall Street JournalVillage Roadshow filed suit in the Los Angeles Superior Court against Warner Bros. to be released Matrix Resurrections in theaters and on HBO Max at the same time. This allegedly violated the terms of the contract. The lawsuit claims that the box office was wrecked and made the film a victim of piracy. He claims that the studio knew this was going to happen and still moved forward. In the lawsuit, Village Roadshow also alleges that they are trying to exclude the company from future movies and television series for which they are rights holders. Apparently, Warner tried to force them to give up these rights, for example, in the television series of edge of tomorrow. And he was also denied the option to collaborate on the prequel to Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
