The development of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is already coming to an end, which means that fans of Nintendo They have already begun to speculate about the future of the franchise. Sadly, not even his own Masahiro Sakurai he knows what will happen next, since he is currently “not thinking about anything specific.”
During a recent interview, the father of Super Smash Bros. revealed that there are currently no plans for a sequel, and in fact, he’s not one hundred percent sure he’s going to create another installment in the series either:
“I need to think about whether or not I will release another Smash game, even if I had to do something that would disappoint users. I don’t know if there can be another Smash without my involvement, because once we wanted to pass the baton to someone else but it didn’t work out.
If the series were to continue, it would have to speak to Nintendo to determine whether it could be successful or not. It is a subject that I must think carefully about. “
Due to the success it had Super Smash Bros. Ultimate hopefully Nintendo don’t want to let the franchise die with that game, but previously Sakurai expressed his wishes to retire from video games and use his free time to travel around Japan. It would be weird if the new Smash don’t count on the presence of this legendary developer, but maybe we should get used to that idea.
In the meantime, remember that WB Games is working on his own version of Smash and here you can see the first filtered image.
Editor’s note: After all the years Sakurai invested in Smash, it makes sense that the executive would rather take a break from the franchise. Of course, I would love to have another game in the series, but I also understand if its creator wants to move to other projects.
