President Andrés Manuel López Obrador affirmed that the protests that seek to hit policewomen or destroy public buildings or monuments are acts of a conservative nature and seek to provoke the government.
In relation to yesterday’s demonstration by feminist groups to demand the decriminalization of abortion, the federal president asserted that it is a mistake to demand a right with the use of violence.
The head of the federal Executive reiterated that this violent nature in the protests began with the arrival of his administration, so he doubts their authenticity.

The use of belligerence, said López Obrador, only affects the movement and distances the public’s sympathy for social movements.
“It is a mistake to demand a right with the use of violence, all protests must be peaceful, not violence. Now these acts of violence have been taking place that did not occur before; It is a new phenomenon that has to do with the beginning of our government, that is why I distrust its authenticity ”, he declared in his morning press conference from the National Palace.
“Instead of helping the causes, it affects them, that’s why it gives me mistrust,” he said.
The president explained that his government will be careful not to fall into the trap of provocation and not to please conservative movements that would like there to be acts of repression.
“Yes you have to be vigilant, but also not fall into the trap of provocation, get around it, because these conservative movements also want us to repress, to use force,” he said.
Feminist collectives and activists protested yesterday in the center of the capital under the watchful eye of police officers protected with shields and riot helmets. The authorities put up protective fences on some key buildings and emblematic monuments of Mexico City that, in the past, were painted in demonstrations.
