Apple started manufacturing the iPhone 13 in India.
The novelty was confirmed by the company this Monday, in what is considered one of the first big steps in the gradual disassociation of the brand from Chinese plants.
Since the tensions between the United States and China began, the tech giant has been looking for manufacturing alternatives.
India is one of those options, as well as Mexico and Vietnam, as detailed Reuters.
The iPhone 13 began manufacturing at an Indian plant owned by Taiwan’s Foxconn, the largest contract manufacturer linked to Apple.
The plant is located in Sriperumbudur, in the state of Tamil Nadu, in southern India.
The enhancement of Apple’s manufacturing process in India is not accidental, it is about the second largest market in the world by volume.
Beyond the fact that most of the products are going to be exported to world markets, the location of the plant in that country will give it a much more advantageous position when it comes to seeking to win market share in the domestic market.
Apple’s idea, according to the same company, is to assemble tablets also in India.
Apple already has part of its production in India and the iPhone 13 will be the company’s fourth model to be produced locally.
Since the year 217, Tim Cook’s company has had a presence in that country.
India in the target of Apple
India is the fastest growing nation on the planet.
This is not an insignificant piece of information. Even more so if one takes into account that, in addition, India is going to surpass China in number of inhabitants.
It is estimated that before 2045 the population of India will represent almost 20% of the population of the globe and that its middle class will not stop increasing, which is a great opportunity for brands.
For many, it will be “the new China”.
These data have led many companies to organize their landing in this growing market, from retail companies to technology companies. India is ideal for gaining market volume.
A key fact: with more than 1,310 million inhabitants, more than half of Indians are under 25 years old, which makes the country one with enormous growth potential in the future.
