The case of Roberto Siucho has been similar, since since his arrival at the beginning of the year he has not been able to debut with Universitario. In sport We recap the cases and why none of those mentioned came to step on the Monumental lawn with a cream shirt. Differences with the coach, contractual problems and technical decisions have been gravitating for these names to go through the ‘false door’ of the ‘U’.
walter fretes
In 2011, Universitario was reinforced with several important names from the local media such as Johan Fano, Cristian Álvarez, Pedro García and Pablo Vitti, the latter two champions with Anibal Ruíz’s San Martín. And the name of Walter Fretes also appeared on that list. The Paraguayan, who had arrived at the ‘saints’ in 2010, signed an agreement with Julio Pacheco’s board of directors in mid-2011; however, the midfielder never made his debut.
The reason? Hiring him had been denied by the then cream director, Enrique Sánchez. “Not for two minutes did we think of him”replied the manager, leaving the Guarani’s word without effect. “It was never in our plans, it is not even a frustrated negotiation, there was simply no interest. I am interested in knowing the truth, I do not know who his employer is, but his version is alien to reality “Sanchez added.
The story would not end there, Fretes assured that he did have a contract signed with Julio Pacheco, president of the ‘U’ at that time. “I have the contract, but I have not received anything. I do not know what is happening. Perhaps an arrangement could be reached with the ‘U’, but I want to enforce my contract. I take a bad image of Julio Pacheco “replied the Paraguayan.
Fretes argued that he was already owed six months of salary, but it was not until February 2012 that Julio Pacheco announced him as a brand new signing. “Everything is already fixed. Fretes has a contract and the technician has already given the go-ahead. From Monday he will train with the squad ”, declared the cream president. However, the Paraguayan never made his debut, due to debt issues, the link was not officially closed and despite the fact that the player tried to stay physically fit, his patience ran out.
Fretes got tired of waiting, returned to his country and that year until 2014 he played for Deportivo Capiatá until he retired from soccer. According to a 2020 Football in America report, the Paraguayan appeared on the list of players to whom “U” owes, at that time the sum was close to 400 thousand dollars, which confirms that there was indeed a contract in between.
Mario Leguizamon
The name of Mario Leguizamón is well remembered in Peruvian soccer between 2006 and 2008, seasons in which he shone with San Martín; However, his good performances would be erased by himself after verbally assaulting judge Silvia Reyes. The lack brought consequences such as the termination of his contract and little or nothing would be known about him until 2010, when he returned to parade in teams, such as José Gálvez, César Vallejo and Cienciano.
However, it seemed that his career was taking another breath in Peru when in 2013 he would sign for Universitario. The Uruguayan did not come from a good season with ‘Dad’, but even so he came to Ate wanting to give everything. However, he left without making his debut or adding a single official minute. In an interview with Infobae this year, the popular “Lisurita” gave details of his cream stage and the reasons why he did not play.
“At the University I did not do well, I had bad luck, because ‘Ñol’ Solano takes me and I arranged a pre-contract, I came on vacation days that I had. They call me to tell me that they took Nolberto out, that Ángel Comizzo had caught and that he still had to introduce me. Comizzo didn’t give me a chance […] I even asked him to play reserve and he said no. When he denied me that, I made the decision to leave.”, Leguizamón said to the aforementioned outlet.
As much as the Uruguayan trained with the team at the Monumental, Comizzo never got to put it on and after the first round of the local tournament ended, Leguizamón’s patience ended and he decided to terminate the contract. That year the ‘U’ would win the national title, but ‘Lisurita’ was not even on the substitute bench.
Bruno Sepulveda
This year, Universitario had a similar problem again with the case of Bruno Sepúlveda, an Argentine striker who had everything ready to be a brand new cream reinforcement. The attacker arrived in Lima and trained with the first team while waiting to close his contract, but it never materialized. The reason was that Estudiantes de Río Cuarto, the club that owns his pass, closed an agreement with Barracas Central, a team where he was on loan in 2022.
His club owner of his pass preferred to extend the link with Barracas Central than sign an agreement with the ‘U’ and his transfer was diluted. Beyond Sepúlveda’s intention to play for the creams and even be present on the night of the presentation, this did not come to pass. Barracas maintained a purchase option until December 31, 2022, which made it difficult for the Argentine to leave, who was already in Peru waiting for the ‘OK’ and to be able to play. With the negative response, the 30-year-old attacker returned to his country with his frustrated pass.
Roberto Siucho
After his foray into China between 2019 and 2021, where he played for two teams and even renounced his Peruvian citizenship, Roberto Siucho returned to Peru as a free agent hoping to resume his level. The 26-year-old winger arrived at the start of the year, but it wasn’t until March that he was announced as a cream booster. It was a bet by the administration that saw him as a youth player who could return to his level, but the reality has been different.
To date, Siucho, whose contract is until the end of 2024, has not made his debut with the ‘U’ and has only appeared on the squad list twice. The delay in recovering his Peruvian nationality and some injuries that have afflicted him have been the cause of him being out of it for the entire Apertura. Currently, he is still not taken into account for physical issues and his future remains uncertain. He was not loaned in the middle of the year, so he -at least- will continue in Ate until the end of the year.
Bonus Track: José Luján
The national defense was another of the cream reinforcements this year. José Luján came to fight for a position in the cream team after two seasons with Melgar, but he left without shame or glory in the middle of the season. The lack of opportunities (he was only called up for two games) exhausted the defender’s patience and in the middle of the year he asked for his departure.
Luján, with a contract until the end of the year with the ‘U’, arrived at César Vallejo on loan after not registering official minutes with the cream team. Currently, he seeks to earn a place in the eleventh poet directed by Sebastián Abreu.
