Virtual wallet Lemon announced its Launch in 5 new Latin American countries with a 100% crypto versionwhich will allow users in the region to operate without commissions through “$lemontag” (ID in the app) and interact with DeFi. This was reported to Cointelegraph en Español through a statement.
In this first stage of launch, the crypto functions for 5 new countries: Mexico, Peru, Colombia, Uruguay and Ecuador.
Marcelo Cavazzoli, CEO and Founder of Lemon said: “Brazil was our first step to connect Latin America with crypto and Web3 in 2022. Today we managed to take the next one in 5 more countries after 6 months of investment and continuous work”.
In the statement they reported:New users will be able from today transfer crypto instantly and commission-free via ‘$lemontag’ between 7 countriesexchange between more than 20 tokens, deposit cryptocurrencies for more than 18 blockchain networks, such as Bitcoin with the Lighting Network, or Ethereum with Arbitrum or Optimism. They will also be able to access the main DeFi protocols such as Aave Protocol, in addition to knowing in real time the assets and liabilities guarded by the company with the ‘Crypto Reserves and Solvency Test’ from the app”.
From Lemon they opined: “Latin America is regionalizing. Communities, referents, influencers, teams, and even people no longer consume only local material or are made up of people from their country, but from everywhere. Technological progress and cryptocurrencies as investment and innovation alternatives in Web3 projects position the continent as one of the most advanced, but few are the products that allow frictionless interoperability between people and their projects.”.
Regarding this, Marcelo Cavazzoli expressed: “We want to build a product for the region with all the people who want to be part of the transformation. This first stage of launch will allow us to understand in depth what the community in each country needs to integrate new functionalities with them.”.
In principle, the app will be made available in the Play Stores of Peru, Mexico, Colombia, Uruguay and Ecuador for Android devices. In this way, they will become part of the community that Brazil and Argentina already make up in Latin America.
New users will be able to access a crypto educational course with videos provided by the app itself. It will give them a diploma in NFT format in case of concluding it, because in this way “validate that they have the basic knowledge to start operating within the ecosystem” according to the company.
Finally, in the statement they concluded: “Just as in Argentina the ‘VISA Lemon Card’ allowed more than 800,000 people to have the possibility of obtaining their first satoshis (portions of Bitcoin) and in Brazil using PIX with crypto for day-to-day transactions, Lemon will focus on working with Existing crypto communities and references in each country to build a regional product with projections of achieving integrations that continue to facilitate access to crypto and Web3”.
