Last March, in the beautiful medieval town of Briones, located in one of the most important wine-producing enclaves of La Rioja Alta, it opened its doors Santa María Briones, a high-end boutique hotel where to reconnect with oneself and rediscover the historical and leisure offer of the area. Owned by Jaría Hotels, Santa María Briones is a project that has long been cherished by the promoter family: a man from Rioja and a Puerto Rican woman who have settled in the US for a long time, who decide to return to this land to recover their almost forgotten roots and their love for a tradition culture attached to the world of wine.
Located in the historic center of the Rioja town, the Santa María Briones hotel is located in a 16th century civil mansion of high historical valuevery close to the walls of Las Cuarenta and Torreón, whose spectacular views have the meanders of the Ebro River as a backdrop. The recovery project of this manor house has been carried out by the architect Ignacio Quemada and the interior design studio Isabel López Vilalta & Asociados who, respecting certain original elements of the building and from the use and combination of light with noble materials of natural originlike stone or wood, have managed to create spaces with an intimate atmosphere.
Santa Maria Briones has 16 spacious rooms of different categorieswith views of the majestic landscape offered by the Ebro, with its vineyards at the foot of the Sierra de Cantabria, the defensive wall, also integrated into the courtyard of the lodging or the medieval Briones. stays very bright, decorated with natural tonesequipped with technology and home automation designed for comfort and equipped with all kinds of services to make your stay a sensory and unforgettable experience.
The gastronomic offer is in the hands of the Juan Cuesta from Logroñotrained in restaurants such as El Portal del Echaurren together with Francis Paniego, Venta Moncalvillo by the brothers Carlos and Ignacio Echapresto, Martin Berasategui’s MB in Tenerife or Las Rejas by Manuel de la Osa, who runs the kitchen at allegar restaurant (term that in the local jargon means “clean the plate”). A culinary proposal that reinterprets the Rioja recipe book using top quality ingredients from from orchards and local producerstreated with the utmost care, with refined technique and respect.
In Santa María Briones, the original draft of the house has also been recovered, a very important element associated with the culture of wine in La Rioja: small caves carved into the rock that were once used to make, breed and age that are now often used for casual dining. The Calado of the hotel, in addition to being one of the best preserved in the area, replicates this use in a certain way to become the ideal place to taste a typical menu of Rioja products. La Habladilla is the private room that sits above the openwork, equipped with all the necessary technology for professional meetings.
The common areas are completed with a large living room with fireplace and library with the old cistern of medieval origin and an adjacent cafeteria, a small gym with terrace on the third floor or private parking with Tesla charger for all types of electric vehicles and also has customizable booking packages to enjoy unique stays adapted to each person.
