The Korean automotive company KIA Motors will produce its new EV9 electric car at its plant in Nuevo Leóna state in northern Mexico where the American Tesla will also manufacture an electric vehicle.
The Government of Nuevo León reported this Monday in a statement that the announcement was made by the state governor, Samuel García, during a tour of Asia in which he visited the Kia facilities in Seoul, South Korea, where he completed the expansion of the assembly plant that was established in the state since 2016.
Today is the time of Nuevo León. We say this with great pride and very happy that Kia is part of it. This economic boom that we are experiencing is going to benefit everyone in the state with better jobs, a healthier environment, the best conditions to invest,” said the state president.

Kia’s decision comes after announcing last February that Tesla, the automaker of magnate Elon Musk, will install a megafactory in Nuevo León with an investment of more than 5,000 million dollars.
Governor García now stressed that one of the main objectives is to move from the traditional industry to the industry of the future.
In addition, he thanked Eui Chul Jeon, president of Kia’s Strategic Business Planning for choosing Nuevo León for its growth.
According to the official Kia website, the EV9 is fully electric and sets a new standard in such drives.
The Kia Motors plant in Nuevo León began operations in May 2016 and has a production capacity of 400,000 vehicles per year and employs around 3,000 people.
Currently, it produces various car models, including Kia Forte and Kia Rio.
In the document circulated by the state government, it is not specified when the expansion of KIA will start and the amount of the investment that will be made.
