Attack the titans shakes up the rhythm of its plot again. The rumble is developing. Dozens of Colossal Titans walk crushing everything in their path. Before that, the story of Ymir, the founder of titans, is full of nods towards the different seasons of Shingeki no Kyojin.
It all started with her and it may also end. After a section marked by background information, the series returns to the conflict on Paradis Island. It must be remembered that, while Eren and Zeke were in The Coordinate, only a few moments passed in the real plane where it takes place. Attack the titans.
After this episode, titled “From Your Self 2,000 Years Ago,” maybe Shingeki no Kyojin enter a zone of bewilderment for its various actors, including Eren. Some of the questions that may arise (and on which we await more information before answering), are: Is Eren able to see beyond what happened? Was the cycle of visions closed when the circle of 2000 years of suffering was sealed? What will be the role of Mikasa and Armin? The rumble, seen from his perspective, does not seem like a coincidence but a nod to what you do not know, the future of this story (at least those of us who follow the mango adaptation).
Shingeki no Kyojin: Ymir’s Misfortune
Within a story in which it is complex to differentiate between good guys and bad guys, “On behalf of your self from 2,000 years ago” has left the certainty that the main villain of Attack the titans it is King Fritz and his constant abuse of Ymir. The previous seasons showed some details about this story but not the way it was told during this episode.
King Fritz’s cruelty leads Ymir to cross paths with the thing that gives him the powers of the Founding Titan., with a previous nod to previously mentioned images, like that flower stained in blood that Zeke also sees after the explosion together with Levi. Moved by power, the King seeks to cultivate Ymir’s abilities beyond his existence until he achieves and thus propitiates the rupture of a town. The division is produced by generating a kind of superior race and wanting to subjugate the world through them.
Meanwhile, the abuses suffered by Ymir and her sentence in La Coordenada are told, where she must create by hand each Titan that is later observed in the other plane. Ymir, that figure mentioned as the author of all evil, is a being without any will, subject to the voice of others, those of royal blood. She finds in Eren a kind of ally. It is he who reminds him that he can have his own vision of what is happening. The moment when the Ymir’s eyes are revealed to the viewer has a powerful symbolic value: for the first time, she decides what to do.
eren unchained
So, he hands over the power of the Founding Titan to Eren, who in the process absorbs Zeke and becomes something he still has. Shingeki no Kyojin it does not fully reveal: it is all dust, noise, uncertainty and fear. The transformation of the protagonist is preceded by a moment that, like that of the blood-stained flower in relation to Ymir (a pure soul that has been corrupted), has a valuable symbolic charge.
Eren, imprisoned in The Coordinate, frees himself from the chains by ripping off his thumbs while Zeke is on the ground, kneeling, looking for explanations. In that way, Attack the titans show how The protagonist of the story assumes his destiny, frees himself from his brother’s ancestry and goes into the future that perhaps only he knows. Her dialogue with Ymir is revealing in this regard: Eren reminds her of her humanity. He does it, who seems to be progressively losing these notions, to remind her that she is also looking for freedom. which, for Eren, involves going outside the walls.
So the narration of Shingeki no Kyojin go back to when Eren is headless for the Founder Titan to take his body and activate the rumble. A change of perspective arises from that moment, when the story ceases to be told through Eren and Zeke and begins to be developed by what they see and observe. my house Y armin. Eren’s friends are deluded with the idea that he has saved them, that he is still theirs in some way, until his partner reveals his intentions: it is not about winning a battle but about winning them all.
In this context, Eren emerges as a figure open to the extermination of all peoples except one, the one in which he was born.
