- Joe Biden launches his re-election campaign as president of the United States, emphasizing the defense of democracy and freedom at a time of political polarization.
- Biden would possibly face Donald Trump in the 2024 elections, whom he accuses of endangering American democracy in his ad.
- Polls show Biden faces concerns about his age and fitness for office, but highlights his legislative record and achievements in raising pandemic and climate funding.
The President of the United States, Joe Biden, formally launched his re-election campaign on Tuesday, April 25.
He did it with an ad posted on social media.
The decision puts the Democrat in a race that possibly pits him against the same rival he beat in 2020, Donald Trump, whom he accuses in the spot of endangering American democracy.
The “2024 campaign” will take place in an era marked by political polarization, with both parties fighting over the small number of states that have no defined preferences and the small portion of the electorate that each could “steal” from the other.
In the ad spot, Biden frames the election as a matter of “if in the coming years we will have more or less freedom, more rights or less”.
“I know what I want the answer to be and I think you do too. This is not a time to be complacent. That’s why I’m running for re-election,” Biden says as footage of the Capitol takeover by Trump fans in January 2021 is viewed.

Biden is going for his re-election
In the video, Biden then references the overturning of the “Roe v. Wade” on abortion by the Supreme Court.
Current Vice President Kamala Harris features prominently in the video.
Already the oldest president in US history at 80, Biden would be 86 at the end of a second term.
Polls say Americans do not approve of Biden’s performance as president and show great concern about his age and fitness for office, even among Democrats themselves. Biden responds to this by being judged by his homework and not by his age.
The points in favor that Americans see in Biden is his extensive legislative record, obtaining funds for the pandemic and the approval of climate and infrastructure measures.
With the slogan “Let’s finish the job, I know we can” (Let’s finish this job, I know we can), Biden says in the spot that “every generation of Americans has faced a moment where they have had to defend democracy, defend our personal liberties, defend our right to vote and our civil rights. And this is our moment.”
In a statement released minutes after Biden’s advertising spot was released, Trump attacked him for high inflation and his handling of the border with Mexico. The text also repeats false claims that he won the 2020 election.
“There has never been a greater contrast between two successive administrations in all of American history. Ours was greatness and theirs was failure”, says the text of the former Republican president.
The latest data from wsj they say only 42 percent of voters approve of the job Biden is doing, compared with 56 percent who disapprove.
The poll also says that only 15 percent of voters believe the country is on the right track.
