Jake Dennis has repeated his masterful performance from Saturday and will again start from pole position in the second heat of the London ePrix. The Avalanche Andretti team driver was the fastest in qualifying and after beating Lucas Di Grassi in the grand finale, he took his second pole position of the weekend. None of the contenders for the title have managed to get past the group stageso the fight for the championship will be focused on the center and back of the peloton.
The British Jake Dennis made it clear from the first moment that he wanted to raise the public from their seats again. British connection that worked from the group stage, since Dennis got the best time in Group A after signing a 1:13.279. António Félix Da Costa finished just 81 thousandths behind the local hero, while the other two remaining tickets for the knockout phase remained in the hands of Nyck de Vries and Oliver Askew. Thus, Stoffel Vandoorne and Edo Mortara, contenders for the title, were relegated to back places.
The script in Group B of the classification was not very different, since Lucas Di Grassi also showed his credentials with a 1:13.006. And it was no different because the drivers who managed to get to the quarterfinals weren’t the ones who were fully involved in the fight for the title. Antonio Giovinazzi managed to finish second, followed by Nick Cassidy and Sébastien Buemi. Frenchman Jean-Eric Vergne stayed at the gates, while Mitch Evans came back a tenth from fourth place, but in seventh place.
Jake Dennis did not give Sébastien Buemi an option in the first quarterfinal match and beat the Swiss by half a second. António Félix Da Costa became his rival in the semis after leaving Nick Cassidy on the road. On the other side of the frame, Antonio Giovinazzi consummated the surprise by eliminating Nyck de Vries. The Dragon Penske pilot faced Lucas Di Grassi in the semifinals after eliminating the Brazilian Oliver Askew. Two ‘semis’ without history in which Dennis and Di Grassi imposed their law with some solvency.
The grand final was decided in favor of Jake Dennis to achieve his second pole position of the weekend. Behind Lucas Di Grassi will start Antonio Giovinazzi after setting a better record in his semi-final, which leads António Félix Da Costa to fourth place. Nyck de Vries will start fifth in a race in which the title contender with the best starting position is Jean-Eric Vergne with his tenth place. Stoffel Vandoorne will start 13th, followed by Mitch Evans, while Edo Mortara will have to come back from 17th place.
