Is called ivan toneyis 27 years old and plays as a forward in the brentford of the Premier League. His name has gained a lot of notoriety in the last hours after learning that he bet against his team thirteen times, which goes against the regulation of the English federation (FA, for its acronym in English) and is one of the offenses for which who was sanctioned with eight months without being able to play. The English attacker bet on 232 occasions, between 2017 and 2021, of which 126 of these bets were related to competitions in which the club where Toney was active at that time.
In the documentation unveiled this Friday by the FA, it is specified that the club in which Toney played was directly involved in 29 of those 126 bets. Of the 29 bets, 16 were in favor of his team in 15 different games. Toney played in eleven of those games.
The remaining thirteen bets were against his club, but the striker did not participate in any of those matches. In addition, Toney bet fifteen times on his goal. However, the regulatory commission that handled the case explained that Toney had no influence on these results and that therefore there was no rigging.
“There is no evidence that Mr. Toney was in a position to influence his team’s results, because he was either not on the team or unable to play at the time.”the commission said.
The FA wanted to ban Toney fifteen months, but reduced the ban to eight months after the Englishman admitted the facts and was examined by a psychiatrist and diagnosed with a gambling addiction. The specialist determined that the footballer needed professional help.
