Ivan Reitman, responsible for films such as Ghostbusters (1984), has died at the age of 75.
An official statement from the family of Ivan Reitmann has revealed that the legendary film director and producer died peacefully in his sleep on Saturday night at his home in Montecito, California.
“Our family is grieving the unexpected loss of a husband, father and grandfather who taught us to always look for the magic in life.” They released Ivan Reitman’s children, named Jason, Catherine and Caroline, in a joint statement. “We are comforted that his work as a filmmaker brought laughter and happiness to countless people around the world. As we mourn in private, we hope that those who knew him through his films will always remember him.”
A life linked to cinema.
Ivan Reitmann born in Czechoslovakia in 1946, he and his family left the country during his youth and settled in Canada. There, the aspiring filmmaker began to show an interest in entertainment. That’s why he graduated in music and theater at McMaster University in Hamilton.
His film debut came with Foxy Lady of 1971, a comedy in which Eugene Levy and Andrea Martin stand out. She later made other movies like cannibal women (1973) and The Incorrigible Meatballs (1979). But she received worldwide recognition thanks to the wacky platoon (1981) and The Ghostbusters (1984).

What’s more, Ivan Reitmann had several projects underway, since he was about to start shooting the sequel to The twins knock twice titled Triplets and also was going to do Summer of Love. His legacy can be continued by his son Jason Reitmansince he has been responsible for Ghostbusters: Beyond of 2021.
