Whether in space, against fearsome villains, or even against each other, the House of Ideas’ superheroes have waged epic conflicts that have resulted in the deaths of a few or, at worst, the destruction of entire realities. With you, some of the most important wars of Marvel.
The Kree/Skrull War (The Avengers #89, 1971)
Considered the great story of its time, in this battle the Avengers find themselves right in the middle of a galactic war between two rival races: the Kree, a race of honorable warriors, and the Skrull, shapeshifters who want domination of the Universe. In this epic, Captain Mar-Vell (Kree) and the romance between Scarlet Witch and the android Vision have an important role.
The Secret Wars (Secret Wars #1, 1984)
Beyonder, a cosmic entity who kidnapped heroes and villains to fight on a planet called Battleworld, never imagined that Dr. Doom would take advantage of this situation.
The Armor War (Iron Man #225, 1987)
Tony Stark’s technology was stolen… and more worryingly, it has been sold to various supervillains, who have created their own armor. So Iron Man has two options in the face of this serious problem: get them back
The War for the Gems (Infinity Gauntlet #1, 1991)
Marvel’s most important and ambitious cosmic saga to date tells how after placing the six Infinity Stones in a gauntlet, capable of controlling time, space, mind, soul, reality and power, Thanos embark on a mission to, in addition to conquering the universe, win the heart of Death. In the middle are the Avengers and other heroes and villains who will try to prevent the destruction of Earth and the rest of existence.
The Secret War (Secret War #1, 2004)
Latveria, the land dominated by Doom, has become a place where rights have disappeared. So only a coup led from the outside (and by Nick Fury) could free its inhabitants.
The Civil War (Civil War #1, 2006)
After enforcing the Superhuman Registration Decree (in which all masked heroes and villains are forced to reveal their secret identities), Cap decides to turn his back on the government and fight for the right of superheroes to act freely. After a merciless fight with his own friends, the owner of the shield decides to surrender, not knowing that this would also cause his death. Among the Marvel wars, this is one of the best known.
The War Against Distrust (Secret Invasion #1, 2008)
For years, unbeknownst to anyone, the Skrulls infiltrated every social and political area of Earth, supplanting several of Marvel’s top superhumans. The result? An invasion in which no one can be sure who their ally is. After a fight in which heroes and villains unite to stop the shapeshifting aliens, Norman Osborn, the former Green Goblin, deals the final blow to the Skrull attack, making him the new favorite of the US government.
The War for the Devil’s Soul (Daredevil Shadowland #1, 2010)
Now leader of The Hand, Daredevil returns to Hell’s Kitchen to become its protector… but also its tyrant. Given that, “street” heroes like Spider-Man have a lot to say about it.
The War of Teams (Avengers vs. X-Men #1, 2012)
The Phoenix cosmic force returns to Earth, representing for the X-Men a symbol of hope, but for the Avengers it is nothing more than destruction. This is one of the most spectacular events, as superheroes like Wolverine, who is a mutant but also an Avenger, must take sides in this complicated battle.
The Secret Wars…again (Secret Wars #1, 2015)
Earth 616 and the Ultimate Universe have collided, and only a handful of heroes and villains from both sides will survive. And guess who will become a god to put everything in order!
Civil War… Again (Civil War II #1, 2016)
An Inhuman has emerged who can predict the future and know who will commit a crime before it happens. Carol Danvers, Captain Marvel, sees it as a crime prevention opportunity, but Iron Man claims it’s an attack on free will. However, apparently the cause of a great tragedy will be a hero…
