Netflix achieved one of his great international successes with ‘Dark’, a German science fiction series created by Baran bo Odar and Jantje Friese which came to an end in 2020. It did not take long for it to be announced that his new television fiction would be ‘1899’.
With the European migration crisis and Brexit in mind, ‘1899’ promises to become Netflix’s new obsession. Next we will review all that is known about a series that should not take long in power, since its filming ended months ago.
The history
A group of migrants leave London aboard a steamboat to start a new life in New York. Everything seems to be going smoothly until they find another similar ship adrift on the high seas, when the trip turns into a nightmare.
Cast and protagonists
‘1899’ has a very large cast, but its great attraction for the Spanish public is the presence of Michael Bernardeauvery popular thanks to his role as Guzmán in ‘Elite’, also for Netflix.

The filming
The recordings of ‘1899’ began on May 3, 2021, three months later than initially planned. Filming took place mostly in Germany – they were there well into October – but the crew also visited London for a couple of weeks.
