He live action of The little Mermaid it has changes that were inserted into the plot in order to tell the story from a modern perspective. The tape, which is a remake from the animated classic remembered for starting Disney’s “renaissance” in the late 80s and early 90s, it has a script that, for the most part, sticks to what was seen in the original version. However, scenes, songs and dialogues are added that aim to appeal to new generations.
Rob Marshall, director of this new adventure, spoke about the way in which the audience will react to these changes and specifically referred to those who treasure the structure of the animated feature film. In an interview with indiewire said the following:
It’s so funny how people cling to things. They don’t realize it’s a different gender. You have to make it work like a live action movie like there never was an animated movie. It’s your chance to do things that work for the story. Everything revolves around the story. It’s like taking a beautiful opera or play and doing it again.”

In addition, the director made clear his intention to refresh the film and bring it closer to sensibilities that more reflect the behavior of society in the middle of 2023. This desire to detach the narratives of their counterparts of yesteryear has been seen before. However, for the production it was very important:
“You look at it from a new perspective. We are not in 1989, but in 2023,” Marshall said. “So what can we contribute, and how do we keep the most important things that keep working, but reimagine them?”
Speaking of things that are different, the filmmaker also mentioned that, this time around, the story takes a lot more from the tale written by Hans Christian Andersen.
«Personally, I went back to the story of Hans Christian Andersen, that’s where everything came from. I wanted to do a reimagining of that story.”

Jose Roberto Landaverde I love writing, listening, reading and commenting on everything related to cinema. I love music and am a fan of The Beatles, Fleetwood Mac and Paramore. My favorite movies are Rocky and Back to the Future and obviously one day I’ll climb the “Philly Steps” and drive a DeLorean. Faithful believer that cinema is the best teleportation machine, and also that on the big screen we can all see ourselves represented.
