Bungiebest known for games as a service, Destinywould be working on an as yet unnamed mobile FPS, in collaboration with NetEase. Or so it has been discovered on a LinkedIn profile of an artist employed by NetEase Games who cooperated with Bungie that he would be developing an “unannounced mobile FPS game”.
According to a source with knowledge of NetEase’s plans, Bungie is developing a new game Destiny where he has been working for more than two years. NetEase is well known in its native China for its mobile games, and perhaps Bungie thought it would be a good idea to pursue this development experience to expand Destiny to an additional platform.
It could also have been the other way around, with NetEase perhaps looking for a western series under which to develop a new mobile title. Before, it was said that Bungie I could be working on a game Destiny for mobile with NetEase, as the Washington-based studio had posted job ads for the project. It’s been a joint project for a long time, and now it looks like it’s going to be a mobile FPS using the Destiny universe.
However, this is not a mobile version of Destiny 2, but it will be something of its own. Apparently, Bungie it is also developing its own mobile game engine to “reach gamers on iOS and Android mobile platforms.” Bungie CEO Pete Parsons has previously said that NetEase has a “significant amount of mobile experience that we don’t have” and that this partnership can “incubate new ideas.”
It is also known that Bungie wants to expand Destiny to film and television. In January, Sony announced its acquisition of Bungie for $3.6 billion, and its executives have discussed how Sony, with its music and film divisions, could help Bungie achieve these ambitions.
In the meantime, analysts speculate that the purchase will help Sony as it wants to grow its video game-as-a-service offerings, and Bungie’s expertise in that will come in handy for the Japanese corporation.
