Every year, the International Airport of Mexico City (AICM) update the Airport Use Fee (TUA), which corresponds to the charge made by airports for the use of their facilities. The fee is not part of the formal ticket price, but is included in the final cost. Currently, airlines separate the fee from the cost of the flight, to give greater transparency in prices.
According to Official Gazette of the Federation (DOF)published at the beginning of December, the AICM TUA will increase by 7.7% by 2023. In domestic flights the increase is 2.02 dollarswhich added to the previous rate results in $28.04. With respect to international flights, the new TUA is 53.24 dollars.
The rate is calculated based on the Consumer Price Index, published by the Reserve Bank of the United States. For this reason, the cost is in dollars and not in Mexican pesos. However, the AICM is in charge of calculating the prices according to the monthly average of the change that is published in the DOF.
When does the increase in the TUA in the AICM come into effect?
The validity of the new rate begins on January 1, 2023 and will be renewed for 2024. Currently, 200 million dollars from this rate are allocated to pay the bonds issued for the construction of the NAIM in Texcoco, which was canceled to build the Felipe Angeles International Airport (AIFA).
In the more than 70 years of operation, the Mexico City International Airport has received different names. Between them Central Air Port of Mexico City, Central Airport of Mexico City, Mexico AirportBenito Juárez Airport and the current Benito Juárez Mexico City International Airport (AIBJCM).
