- Health authorities maintain that Mexico faces a worrying shortage of medical personnel.
- To deal with the problem, the IMSS launched the Second National Recruitment and Hiring Day aimed at places with difficult coverage.
- Little more than the available spaces are for Veracruz, Michoacán, State of Mexico, Chiapas, Tamaulipas, Oaxaca and Puebla.
Over the last few months, a discussion has been generated regarding the number of doctors that our country has. Everything lies in whether there really is a deficit or if there is enough staff to serve the entire population. According to the authorities, doctors are needed and that is why the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS) led the start of the Second National Day of Recruitment and Hiring of Specialists.
Results of the first phase of this program
In this sense, during the first stage of this initiative 13,765 places were opened throughout the national territory. Of the figure, 5,252 spaces were for the state health systems of the 15 states where the Health Plan for Well-being is being carried out this year.
Although one of the main problems was the null interest generated by this program. In the end, only a little over two thousand specialists were hired, which is why some consider this idea a failure.
In this regard, many of the doctors expressed their disappointment to see that a fixed work contract was not offered, but rather it was for a specific period of time. Also the biggest complaint is the insecurity that prevails in rural environments. Therefore, they state that it is not worth risking their integrity in exchange for their profession.
