Kodi, the multimedia center par excellence, has launched a new update of its current stable version: Kodi Matrix 19.2. It’s been more than five months since improvements were added to the ‘Matrix’ series, and this one comes with quite a few.
Kodi 19.2 is not an update with new features, it is an evolution of the Matrix that comes to solve a long list of problems, and improves specific sections of video playback, especially in Windows 10, where it brings news related to HDR10.
Kodi for Windows 10 and Xbox receives many specific improvements
This version of Kodi is one that has fixed several bugs and added an important list of improvements in its versions for Microsoft systems: Windows 10 (Windows 11 also since they use the same version) and Xbox. Although there are also general improvements for IPTV PVR channels, video libraries, and external storage on older Android devices.
Graphics performance in Windows 10 has been improved even if the driver does not support the latest DirectX features, and also performance has been improved when an HDR screen is detected, with improvements in the rendering of 10-bit HDR videos and fixed stability issues when using DXVA2 hardware acceleration with HDR.
In Windows, crashes when switching between monitors, problems with audio have been fixed passthrough, hang when HDR is off or on on a monitor external to Windows Display Settings, and some image or black level issues with video drivers.
The Xbox version solves problems related to the playback of 4K videos with the HEVC codec, the user interface is now truly native in 4K and not a rescaling, the console plays native 10-bit videos if an HDR compatible television is detected, and performance has been increased when playing videos with HEVC and DXVA2.
Minor changes have also been implemented such as new translations in game emulators and addons, multiple general stability improvements on all platforms, reduced crashes and occasional screenshots, and improvements in connectivity and in the implementation of third-party addons.
In general, it is a relatively minor version jump that should not represent problems when updating over the previous version, except on Xbox that goes from version 18.9 to 19.2 and where the jump is much more important.
