The delivery has been triggered in large part by the growth of Q Commerce either Quick Commerceas well as the consumer’s adaptation to this phenomenon, with stronger habits in this regard.
A Statista projection inside the studio “Transport Intelligence” estimated that the Q Commerce It is the main trend that has been unleashed since the health contingency.
The delivery key areas have been made, at least in the customer service platform used to be increasingly reactive to their demands.
The Secretary of Labor, Luisa Maria Mayorrecently appeared and as part of his report before legislators he insisted on the intention of his dependency, to regulate the labor bases to which the delivery men of the famous apps of delivery Y rappi shared in timing with this proposal, which is supporting the consultations of the Secretariat, to establish new labor standards in favor of the employees of the delivery.
“We believe that it is very important that there is a regulatory framework for this sector with due flexibility, because it is not putting them into the force box, of a traditional employment relationship”, is one of the many statements that the Mayor has given in this regard, on how important it is to advance in the regulation of delivery in Mexico, but based on the fact that it has to be a special work model, because if traditional schemes are followed, such as salaried workers, initiatives such as the “Law Rider”, which in Spain precarious the income of the delivery men, who were working based on a salary had to invest more time to achieve the same economic goal that they previously generated.
Get to know the details of this proposal in the voice of Fernando CottaDirector of Policies and Public Affairs of rappi in Mexico, which speaks with Merca2.0 of the interest that there is, at least in this App, in advancing in a proposal that will impact other players such as Uber Eats.
Merca2.0 – What is the STPS labor initiative in delivery about?
Fernando Cota – It is not an initiative as such, it is an intention of the Ministry of Labor, of everyone involved in the sector, to generate a reform that improves the conditions in which platform drivers operate.
Merca2.0 What did (the STPS in a recent appearance) mention in this intention, that generates interest for you to be able to develop the topics?
FC – Regarding the appearance of the Secretary, which I saw with great interest, I would say that in rappi We are 80, 90 percent in agreement with everything he pointed out, warning that it is important that, one, be reformed, take care of the viability of the model, its flexibility and rights; greater protection for drivers and platform operators. The flexibility of the platforms as well as the government is important, it is important that the IMSS open its structure and become more flexible. In that sense we can only agree with what he pointed out.
Merca2.0 – How have you anticipated possible changes in the regulation of delivery in Mexico?
FC – It is important to emphasize that we are the leading company in delivery in Mexico, not only because of the number of users and allied businesses and distributors, but also because we are the company with extensive capillarity in more than 110 cities and in that sense we feel like a very Mexican company. What we have been doing is worrying about the situation in which self-employed delivery people work and in this sense we have been talking with them and with associations, to see what issues we can improve the way in which this self-employment develops, some of them is development of road safety, we recently developed a button for delivery women to activate in cases of harassment and discrimination, which unfortunately occur and what we want is for our delivery women to be protected against discrimination and harassment.
There is a process of dialogue that is taking place and what it is about, I insist, aligned with what the Secretary mentioned (in appearance) is a scheme that works for everyone, first the delivery drivers, restaurants and businesses and the government works, a system that is a win-win for everyone.
