You may think this is a little late because we’ve been through the pandemic for two years where we’ve needed it more than we expected. We go out with a mask and we can’t unlock the iPhone without entering the code unless we have an Apple smartwatch. Up to now.
Finally the Face ID will recognize us even with the mask on, which will facilitate the purchases or simply the look at a whatsapp when we go on the train with the mask and without having to enter the unlock code.
How to unlock iPhone with mask
Apple ensures that “if you use Face ID while wearing a mask, the iPhone will be able to authenticate you if it recognizes the identifying features of the area of your eyes”. In this way, we will not be able to unlock it if we are wearing sunglasses (but we can with our normal glasses), since uses the features of our eyes to identify us and the Apple experts at Applesfera assure that the precision is unique.
It is available in the latest beta of iOS 15.4, and has not yet reached all Apple phones, but we have already been able to know how to configure it with the help of Pedro Aznar, director of Applesfera who has been able to prove it.
To use it, you just have to go to the Face ID and code settings from your iPhone settings and select “use Face ID with a mask”. Once selected for the first time, the mobile will need to do an additional scan of our face with the mask on and if we have glasses, it will ask us to take them off to refine the reading of the features of our eyes.
Once this extra scan is added, we can unlock the phone even while wearing the mask and even with our prescription glasses. A fantasy that according to the expert is great: “detection with a mask is incredible: instantaneous.”
This type of identification requires an iPhone 12 or iPhone 13 to work (neither iPhone X nor Xs or XR will be able to use it) and it’s a convenience we love and can’t wait to use in the next iOS update.
