One of the best things about the Eurovision Song Contest is that it introduces us to wonderful artists (we remain grateful for the fantasy that is Måneskin and its singer Damiano David) and gives us the opportunity to get to know a wonderful city every year.
This year it was up to Turin, northern Italy and in the Piedmont region in which our Spanish representative Chanel has landed ready to win at the festival. And if the Eurovision is not your thing and you prefer to make an express getaway at another time, maybe it will help you to hunt down some ideas.
A last minute trip to Turin
As with many last-minute express trips, it is likely that if you have thought of going to Turin to enjoy Eurovision in the front row, it will cost you something more. If you return on Monday or Tuesday instead of Sunday you will get a reduction in the price of the flights to almost half, but yes, this time you will have to do them with a stopover.
An example: if we do Madrid-Amsterdam-Turin both on the way out and on the way back, we can fly on Thursday May 12 and return on Monday 16 (which is a holiday in Madrid), from 392 euros.
Flight Madrid-Amsterdam-Turin. Departure on May 12, return on May 16.
At any other time, for example at the beginning of June, a direct flight from Madrid to Turin on a weekend would cost us from 247 eurosso you can get away before even taking the summer holidays because it is two hours from the Spanish capital.
Direct flight Madrid-Turin. Departure on Friday, June 3 at 4:05 p.m., return on June 5 at 6:45 p.m.
Where to stay in Turin
Finding a hotel in Turin for these dates is not so complicated. The Aston Hotel, for example, four stars, has last minute accommodation from May 12 to 16 for €376.
Double room at the four-star Aston Hotel from May 12 to 16.
If we go in the first weekend of June we can find hotels like NH Torino Lingotto Congress with four stars for 257 euros in a double room for two nights or the Blu Hotel Sure Hotel Collection by Best Western for 126 euros the weekend.
Double room at the four-star NH Torino Lingotto Congress from June 3 to 5.
Double room at Hotel Sure Hotel Collection by Best Western from June 3 to 5.
What to see Turin in two days
Although the Festival will take up a lot of your time, in a couple of days you can see a lot. The first and essential thing is to visit the historic center of Turin and discover wonders such as the iconic Mole Antonelliana which has an internal panoramic elevator.
From the Turin tourism website they offer a two-hour tour called “Your cousin returns to Turin”or what is the same “your first time in Turin”, in which you visit all that interesting historical center, but we have some essentials beyond the Mole Antonelliana that stands out so much in Turin.
In Piazza Castello you will find the Duomo di Torino (the cathedral where the shroud or shroud of Turin is), the baroque church of San Lorenzo, the Teatro Regio, the Madama Palace with a baroque and a medieval façade and the Royal Palace of Turin , which was the former residence of the Savoys.
To eat, we will visit Porta Palazzo, one of the largest open-air markets in Europeand at night, if you still feel like going out, we can go through Piazza Vittorio Veneto or the Quadrilatero Romano, full of nightclubs and entertainment venues.
For a second day you can visit the egyptian museumone of the most important in the world, and continue to Piazza Carignano, the Carignano Theater and the National Museum of Italian Risorgimento.
In the afternoon you can walk through the gardens of the Valentino Park and see its castle and its “borgo medievale” (a little medieval town), then go to Lungo Po and, at sunsetto the neighborhood of San Salvario.
A bonus: the Monte dei Cappuccini viewpoint will give you a wonderful panoramic view of Turin and is not as far from the center as other viewpoints in the city, and if you have time to spare, do not miss it the Basilica of Superga, which is absolutely splendid.
