Knowing the electricity consumption of your house is something relatively simple if you consult the meter reading through the application of your distributor: in this way you can know how much money you are paying for the electricity you use at the moment. Do you want to know all these data? We teach you how to get them directly from your mobile, either Android or iPhone.
The ever-rising price of electricity is making monthly bills not only progressively more expensive, it also has an adverse side effect: users are reducing the well-being in our homes to save as much as possible on bills. The usual thing is to apply cuts to the appliances that consume the most, such as the air conditioner or the oven. But do you really know how much your house consumes? You can know that data in real time.
Access the meter through your distributor’s app
For the light to reach the various homes and businesses, various companies have to intervene in the process. There are those that generate energy or generators, those that distribute electricity or distributors and those that sell energy to the end customer, known as marketers. It is the latter that we pay for electricity since they are the ones we hire for the task. It does not matter whether we bet on a regulated rate (the one that fluctuates according to the price of electricity) or on a free one (a fixed rate agreed with the marketer is paid).
All the meters are connected to the networks to transfer the consumption readings in real time. It is enough to access said counter to know from electricity consumption curves to real-time consumption. For this, the application offered by each distributor is used, the only one that guarantees access to this data.
There are marketers that offer direct access to the meter in their applications: check if the one you have contracted has this function
Thanks to the distributor you can know how much energy your home is using at all times. To do this, you must perform a series of mandatory steps:
- You need to get a user in your distributor. To do this, you must go to their website and register.
- To find out which is your distributor, look for any of your invoices and look at the CUPS number (Universal Supply Point Code), this data should be in the upper zone.
- Choose the first four numbers of the CUPS (those that follow the “ES”), these are the ones that refer to the distributor.
The most common distributors in Spain are five, below you have their most common numbering along with the web page to which you must go to request registration (this way you will access the meter reading).
For the registration process you have to fill in the relevant form with your personal data. What’s more, surely you need to include a photo of your identity card: since access to the electricity meter implies having very sensitive data, distributors need to contrast the information to make sure that it is really you who is requesting the registration.
The process usually takes one or two days (even more), it is not usually immediate. Once you receive the user, you will have access to the distributor’s website, you can also add said user to the relevant application. Here are the applications of the main distributors:
e-distribution
SDI
Naturgy Clients (Gas Natural Fenosa Clients)
EDP Clients
Viesgo
All the applications of the distributors have a section from which you can access the meter reading in real time. The menus of each application change, you should look for it in a supply management section. The information that the app will show will correspond to what you are spending at the moment.
How much money are you spending on electricity?
With the data of the power that the meter throws, and that you can consult from the application of your distributor, you know the current consumption of your house. With it you can get the price in real time of all the energy you consume, but only if your contract belongs to the regulated market (It is the one that is guided by the fluctuating price of electricity). In the event that you have contracted a free market marketer, this will be the one that dictates the final price of your consumption.
If you are within the regulated market, you can know the price of your consumption in real time multiplying the figure that your meter returns by the price of the kWh of the time zone where you have made the query. That price can be easily known with the Red Eléctrica app (for Android and iOS), the state company that is in charge of operating the power lines.
After multiplying your meter reading by the price of energy, you will get what you would pay if your house maintained that consumption for one hour. Always within the regulated market: if your electricity rate does not belong to that market, surely you will not pay for energy at that cost (it may be more expensive or less, everything will depend on your contract).
