The evaluations, feedback o Comments on daily work are one of the best tools to contribute to an adequate work environment, recognition of teams or correction of operational aspects to strengthen continuous improvement; however, it remains a “taboo” topic because it almost never goes as planned.
What do you need to put into practice for perfect feedback with your team? The first thing: remember that sincerity must take into account the impact of our words towards the other, so the maxim is: “sincerity without empathy is just cruelty”.
4 points to consider when giving feedback
1. Be specific
The comments are about particular facts and not about generalizations. The ideal is: “There is a lack of clarity on how to achieve the objectives of your area, according to the plan you presented because the amount of the budget and the impact it will have is not clear” instead of “You always (or never) give complete information ”.
2. Don’t make it personal
When we say “you are late” or “you are careless”, we are pointing to a personality trait and not a fact, so focus the comment on actions and expectations: “due to company policy, it is necessary to arrive 10 minutes before the meetings with the teams” or “the presentation you sent does not comply with the company’s identity manual”.
3. Involve
Communication must be bilateral and establish what we expect after the comment and the questions that can help you are: how can we change these results? What are your expectations on this topic? What proposals do you have in this regard?
4. The positive is also recognized
Feedback exercises should also be part of the positive results, avoiding the commonplaces of “put on your shirt”, “the team is a fundamental part of the company”, or “we couldn’t do it without you”. Good feedback must have a goal or commitment to really work for the recipient.
Remember that the best internal communication exercises require active listening and a good feedback exercise requires listening to others in order to qualify potential risks and assess where the value-added points are.
