Temporary files are the enemy of Windows computers, luckily, they are quite easy to eliminate following a few simple steps that will only take us five minutes.
In operating systems, Windows 10 included, the applications we run store temporary files, which are designed to improve system performance.
Unfortunately, these slow down the computer once its purpose is finished by continuing to occupy storage space, becoming a problem in many cases, especially in older computers and laptops.
This makes removing them free up memory and, in many cases, make our PC run faster for the next few days (until it fills up with temporary files, of course).
For this reason, today We teach you to delete temporary files from your computers in two different ways, one is through the run dialog box and the other is through the Windows Disk Cleanup feature.
We start with the run dialog:
- The first step is to access the temporary files. To do this, we hold down the Windows button and the R on the keyboard. The Run dialog opens.
- Enter the word Temp in the dialog box and press Enter. The folder containing the temporary files will appear on the screen.
- Hold down the Ctrl key and select the files you want to delete.
- In case you want to delete all the files press Ctrl + A and delete. It is important to bear in mind that before deleting all the files at the same time, the programs must be closed.
- After selecting the files to delete, press Ctrl + D. If a program is running whose files are going to be deleted, the system itself will notify us.
- Once you have deleted all the files go to the recycle bin to permanently delete the temporary files.
This form is the longest and most complex, but it is the preferred one for computer scientists. since it allows greater control of what is erased and what is not touched. Once seen we go with the simplest option.
Steps to follow with the Disk Cleanup tool:
- On the taskbar, find Disk Cleanup and open the app.
- In the drop-down window, select the disk drive you want to clean and click OK. Another dialog box will appear.
- Select the files by checking the adjacent box and click OK.
- In case a prompt appears on the screen, select “delete files” and confirm your command. The cleaning process will begin to dispose of temporary files and permanently delete them.
