The CD or USB boot are extremely important, and we should always have one in case of an emergency, and thanks to these it is possible to recover files, fix problems hardware and software, to detect any problems and also serve to install operating systems in case that the hard drive of our computer fails.
Creating a bootable CD or USB is very simple if we use AOMEI Backupper’s third-party software that supports creating two types of bootable CD or USB flash drive for free, but first let’s talk a little more about these removable storage devices which are bootable CDs or USBs.
What is a bootable CD or USB?
It is a disk or USB that contains all the files necessary to start the computer as well as the operating system.
The operating system is stored on the computer’s hard disk, in case it has a fault, we can have a bootable disk, either in CD or DVD format, or from USB and this will help us to start the computer.
Having a bootable CD has many advantages, for example you will no longer have to have another operating system on your hard drive and boot time will be reduced since you do not have to choose which operating system to open. Another advantage is that it is portable . You can log in with a USB device from any PC that supports USB boot.
Obviously it also has disadvantages, such as, for example, when starting the operating system it could be slow if the USB it uses is slow or does not have much space, and another thing that could count as a disadvantage is the little space in the disk as this is limited as it is configured to have a storage limit.
Steps to create a bootable CD or USB using AOMEI PE Builder
Next we will explain step by step how to create a bootable CD or USB. In this tutorial we will be using AOMEI PE Builder since it is simple, easy and also free.
The first thing to do is download AOMEI PE Builder and proceed to install it, after it has been installed it is ready to use.
Before carrying out all the steps that will be mentioned below, we recommend you make sure that the USB you will use has more than 4GB of capacity and that you copy all its content to another site before, since everything that is on the pc will be deleted.
Step 1
When running AOMEI PE Builder, the first thing that will appear is a window explaining everything that can be done with the software, at the bottom of the window a button will appear with the word “Next”, click.
Step 2
After pressing “Next”, another box will appear where it will indicate whether the system can create boot disks or does not meet the necessary requirements to do so. If you do meet the requirements, press the “Next” button again.
Step 3
A list of the programs that will be added to Windows PE will appear in the next window . By default, a number of basic applications are added that can be left installed or, if desired, can be removed.
Likewise, the applications that the user wishes and AOMEI PE Builder drivers can be added from the buttons that appear at the bottom of the list. Once everything is ready, press the “Next” button.
Step 4
This step consists of choosing the medium where we will create the boot cd. A window will appear with 3 options: CD/DVD, USB Boot Device and Export ISO File. Press the medium you want and press the “Next” button and the process will begin.
As we saw, it is very easy to create a bootable disk and usb, so it is time to create one in case at some point we have a failure in the hard disk or if we simply want to have another operating system in a portable way.
