If the hard drive has been damaged or you just want more space, we will show you how to change the internal hard drive of the classic Xbox easily. Xbox is a video game console from the Microsoft company that has caused a rage among fans since its first versions.
The first of these devices, the Classic Xbox or Original Xbox, was launched in 2001 and among its outstanding features is the incorporation of a Pentium III processor and internal hard drive. Interesting to know that you can connect and use an Xbox 360 hard drive on a computer
Although this console was discontinued, this relic is still appreciated by many video game enthusiasts, but they are sometimes limited by the limited space on the original hard drive. If this is your case, don’t worry, we will show you how to replace it. We will also teach you to solve the problem when the Xbox screen does not give an image, which is another problem that users have presented.
How to open the console?
Before you start you should have some tools on hand. For the larger Torx T15 screws, and the T10 for the smaller ones both are star-shaped.
Completely unplug your console and turn it over to see the back. First, remove the four anti-slip pads to remove the hidden screws using the T15 screwdriver.
You should also remove two screws that are on the sides of the labels. Then carefully turn your console over again and remove the top cover. You will see the components of your Xbox.
Prepare your new hard drive
You must have a hard drive with an IDE connection of the capacity you consider necessary for your console, it can be up to 500 GB. Before installing it on your Xbox, you need to make some modifications. For this it is necessary that you have a power source to power the hard disk, this can be portable or traditional.
You will also need to download the ZXBInstaller file on your computer, you can get it from its official website. Unzip the file and later burn it to a blank CD creating an ISO disc. For this, you can use programs like IMGBurn or some other of your preference.
After this step, go to your console that you previously opened and disconnect the IDE cable from the old hard drive to connect it to the new one.
Subsequently, connect the console to the TV and the power supply to power the new hard drive. Turn on the console and just when you see the Xbox logo on the screen, disconnect the IDE cable to leave the disk in boot mode.
Once the cable is disconnected, turn off the Xbox to connect back to the original hard drive. Insert the disc that you have previously recorded and wait for the program to start working, don’t worry if it takes a while.
When you see the options menu on the screen, disconnect the IDE cable and connect the new hard drive. Select the Format menu option and then the Full Format.
The program will ask if you want to continue, select the Yes option. Now you must press both triggers and Start on your console’s remote to start the process.
At the end of the process, press the triggers and Start again on the remote to finish. Go to the Xbox with Exploit option and select Full Exploit. Select the first option and then UnleashX. Confirm and wait for the process to finish.
Install your new hard drive
When the Exploit is installed you must lock your new hard drive before placing it permanently in your console. To do this, look for the Explorer option from the main menu.
Once there go to drive D, select Installation and then Applications. Look for the Default.xbe option in the ConfigMagic menu.
When the console starts up again press the Start button and select the Lock HDD option and press the A button on your controller.
At the end of the process, press A again and exit the ConfigMagic menu to finish. You can turn off your console to insert the new disk.
You must unscrew the old hard drive and carefully remove it to replace it with the one you have prepared. Secure the new one with the screw and connect it as it was originally.
Now you just have to close the Xbox as you did at the beginning and connect it to start using it as usual. And to enjoy your gaming experience, we recommend the best gaming headphones or earphones for Xbox.
