One of the great surprises during the presentation of the Z Fold3 and Z Flip3 was the launch price of both phones, because for the first time in three years they will be released at a lower cost than their previous generation.
It is still a mystery what the price of the equipment will be in Mexico, but we spoke with Pablo Tapia, marketing director of Samsung Mexico to learn more details, as well as the improvements that the company made to offer greater resistance and convince more users to give the jump to a flexible phone.
“We are working a lot on the resistance of the products. Every time you are creating something different you are bending the rules. When you dare to be the pioneer, you learn and improve your product ”, mentioned the executive.
How much did the new hoses improve in terms of resistance?
On the outside, the phones now come with Gorilla Glass Victus, the most resistant glass on the market, and which claims to be four times more resistant than the technology of its competitors based on alkali-aluminosilicates.
Gorilla Glass Victus promises twice the scratch resistance of Gorilla Glass 6 and resistance to falls of up to 2 meters in height.
The inner screen (the flexible one) has a protective film made of a flexible PET.
Additionally, the frames now feature reinforced aluminum that is 10% more durable than the previous generation.
The most important step was undoubtedly the IPX8 certification, which guarantees that the phones are not only resistant to splashes, but are even submersible up to 1.5 meters for 30 minutes.
Regarding why there is no dust certification, Tapia mentioned that the interior mechanism is made to prevent any dust particles from entering, so that even though they cannot speak of an official certification, users will be able to use their phone without worry.
But one of the main concerns with a flexible phone is precisely knowing how many times you can bend or unfold it without the hinge starting to fail. Samsung ensures that its equipment withstands up to 200,000 folds without any problem. In fact, this figure is not offered by the brand, but was certified by Bureau Veritas, a firm that certifies the resistance of different products.
This means that considering that the equipment folds about 100 times a day, then it will last for 5 years of continuous use, which is much more than the average time that each user spends with a phone before changing it.
The company stressed that in general terms the improvements made to the different components offer between 20 and 80% greater resistance depending on the piece.
“We attack at 2 angles; on the one hand in quality, engineering and innovation so that the products are more resistant and durable. But also in the post-sale experience so that people have the peace of mind that they have a top quality product that is protected by the company, said Pablo Tapia.
Samsung Care +: extra protection starts to make more sense
Samsung offers additional protection to all its phones called Care +. This insurance is optional for customers, but the company recommends purchasing it within the first 30 days of purchasing your product.
With the next launch in Mexico of the Z Flip3 and Z Fold3 Samsung will have promotions for the recruitment of Care +.
A few days ago we shared with you the screen repair prices for the Z Fold3 and Z Flip3 in the United States, which costs were cheaper compared to the previous generation. It is still early to know if repair costs will also drop in Mexico, but Pablo Tapia believes that the costs will also be cheaper.
“There is a lot of talk about folding, but we are doing everything we can on our side to bring it closer to people. We are close to revealing prices now, but users will see a significant improvement in cost. We are pushing for this not to be a niche product, they will be placed in the premium product range ”, he stressed.
Octavio Soto, product manager for Samsung Care + in Mexico, mentioned that the company’s insurance is unique in the market because it not only protects against accidental damage, but also against theft with and without violence. In addition, he noted that it is an additional protection for folding phones:
“Samsung Care + is a good differentiator in the market, it covers 2 events per year, so in case of theft you will have a new device back. It is the best protection we have for the folding. In a matter of accidental damage, if it can be repaired, it is repaired. If it is irreparable or stolen, a new team is given. But they are again certified and with a guarantee for the repair ”.
Octavio Soto also revealed to Unocero that more and more people are betting on buying insurance for their cell phone, since a year ago Samsung Care + contracts were below one digit, but at this time 30% of users acquire this protection program .
Because the prices of the phones have not been disclosed, it is difficult to know the deductibles that users will have to pay in case of theft or damage to one of the flexible equipment, but considering that the brand wants them to be in the price range of For other premium equipment, deductibles could be approximately MXN 1,349 for accidental damage, and MXN 4,399 for theft.
If you still have some doubts about whether it is time to make the leap to a flexible phone because you are worried that you could damage the phone in your day to day, perhaps Samsung Care + can help you make the leap from a “normal” device to a flexible one. but we have to wait to know the prices to know if the mainstream moment for flexible has arrived.
