These days, kids have it all!
It is so common to think that the more you have, the happier we will be, which gives material things the power to modify our moods and the way we feel, even down to our self-esteem.
That is why it is common for children to ask us for things now because everyone in their classroom already has it. But then what can we parents do to help their children be less materialistic and less selfish? Check out these recommendations:
We are the example
Different research shows that parents who are very materialistic have materialistic children. Preach by example.
Free activities
Plan to spend time with your children doing things that don’t cost money like going to the park, riding a bike, cooking or playing different board games.
More is less
Having fewer toys can also encourage creativity and problem-solving.
Do not reward them with material things
Children must strive to do something, that helps them appreciate what it is to win something because it is life as it is.
Give instead of receive
We all like to receive things, but you must teach them that giving and sharing is also very satisfying.
More game, fewer screens
A big problem that creates materialistic children is that the media fill us with products that are very appealing to them. The best thing is that they do not have so much time to be in front of the television or on technology devices that increase consumerism. There are many activities to do with children where no type of screen is needed.
