Originally, the donuts were sold to local stores and supermarkets. However, the success of the donuts was so great that Rudolph decided to also establish his own store and factory with the smell of these as the main attraction.
Vernon’s family found that the fresh aroma and taste of their freshly baked goods were a major draw to consumers.. This led to the innovative idea of installing observation windows in her store so that customers could view the baking and glazing process in real time.
Subsequently, the company gradually expanded through franchising and opening its own stores, and by the 1950s, Krispy Kreme was already known in several states in the United States.
In 1976, the company was acquired by Beatrice Foods Company and then went through several ownership and management changes in the years that followed. By the 2000s, the donut chain was multiplying around the world.
