Harry Brant, the quirky fashionista son of billionaire Peter Brant and supermodel Stephanie Seymour, has died at the age of 24 from a drug overdose, his family announced Monday. The enfant terrible, who practiced gender fluid in his dress, was found dead on Sunday, just days before he entered rehab, his parents said in a statement published by The New York Post.
“It is with great regret that we share with you the news that our beloved son, Harry Brant, lost his battle with addiction and died due to an accidental overdose of prescription drugs,” they have stated in the letter signed by his parents.
Harry and his brother, Peter Jr., were two bon vivants often described as the male version of the famous and wealthy sisters Paris and Nicky Hilton. They were known at New York City’s hottest parties and front-row attendees at major international fashion shows.
The brothers’ father, Peter Brant, is the owner of newsprint maker White Birch Paper and Brant Publications, Inc., whose holdings include Interview Magazine, founded by Andy Warhol.
The businessman is also known for being a flamboyant art collector, and in the front garden of the mansion where the family had resided, a monumental sculpture by artist Jeff Koons stood out, resting on a private plot of more than 120 hectares. For her part, Seymour, the children’s beautiful mother, was one of the first and most famous angels of Victoria’s Secret lingerie company.
They have all had legal problems
The family has been quite controversial and the four members have had problems with the law. Harry Brant, the deceased, was arrested in 2016 for theft and possession of drugs for trying to get out of a taxi whose fare was around 30 euros. He was caught by police at the time “with a white substance” which he later tested positive for drugs.
Just a few days ago, his brother Peter was charged with assault after being involved in a fight with a Port Authority police officer at JFK airport, and has been booked more times in the past for late-night fights. In 2014, Seymour was charged with drunk driving after backing up her Range Rover on a freeway ramp and hitting a traffic sign. But the one who has spent the most days in prison was the patriarch, who was once 84 days behind bars for tax evasion.
