After passing the 24 Hours of Le Mans, the central point of the endurance season, not a few teams decide to touch up their projects to change dynamics, face the final stretch of the year with guarantees or start the preparation of the next campaign. Without going further, The G-Drive Racing team has decided to renew its driver line-up and Gustavo Menezes will take the place of Roberto Merhi in the Aurus # 25 in the remaining rounds of the European Le Mans Series (ELMS) at Spa and Portimao. The American rider will combine this program with his double program around the WEC.
It should be remembered that Gustavo Menezes is a Glickenhaus pilot and he raced the SCG 007 LMH at Portimao before being the ‘excluded’ driver for Le Mans. What’s more, The American is on the list of pilots of the Peugeot Sport LMH project for 2022. However, Menezes has still had time to compete in the ELMS, a category in which he has competed in the Red Bull Ring and Paul Ricard events with the DragonSpeed team. You will now get behind the wheel of the G-Drive Aurus # 25 -managed by Algarve Pro Racing-, vehicle in which you will share the wheel with Rui Andrade and John Falb in Spa and Portimao.
In relation to this new project, Gustavo Menezes has assured: «I am excited to be racing again in the ELMS and to rekindle my relationship with Algarve Pro-Racing through the G-Drive team. I am returning to a different team, but one that is working very well. I am looking forward to going out on track with them. With the Peugeot hypercar program for 2022, I have the need to drive as much as possible. Although I have driven the Glickenhaus this year, I feel more comfortable behind the wheel of an LMP2. The familiarity I have with these types of cars will help me to adapt quickly.
