Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy is one of the best single-player video games that came out last year, but unfortunately its sales disappointed Square Enix. A month ago the game came to the Xbox Game Pass service and it seems that since then it has been doing better, as it is finding its audience.
In an interview for Eurogamer, creative director Jean-Francois Dugas said that they are always looking to sell trillions even if it’s not easy to achieve, but narrative director Mary DeMarle loves the fact that there are gamers enjoying Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy thanks to Xbox. GamePass.
For me, it’s all about creating the game. What I love right now is that people, especially with [Xbox] Game Pass, they are playing [Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy] and they are sharing the experience. We make games to touch people… and it’s great that it’s finding its audience, I think it’s great that it’s still going forward.”

In this same interview, the team said that they are open to the idea of a sequel, because despite the fact that many people know the Guardians of the Galaxy thanks to the Marvel movies, this was a new IP in the video game industry. However, at the moment they do not know what Eidos Montreal’s next project will be.
Right now, we’re not talking about the future. Because every time we close a project, it’s time to rest, put everything away and take a vacation. So I guess in the next few months or years we’ll know what we’re going to work on next.”
According to analyst Dave Gibson, who has analyzed Square Enix data for more than 15 years, Microsoft reportedly paid Square Enix $5-10 million to bring Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy to Xbox Game Pass. No doubt this was a good deal for Square Enix, given their disappointment with the game’s sales.

In my review of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, I said it was a great cinematic experience with a great story, fun dialogue, good character development, and team-focused gameplay. Although its combat may be too simple for what we expect from Eidos Montreal, the studio did not disappoint with the quality of the game, so it’s nice to see that more and more people are enjoying it.
