Pedro Castillo was elected in 2021 and arrested last week by court order for rebellion and conspiracy in what many call a failed “coup d’état” attempt.
The former president ruled for less than a year and a half and faced a strong political crisis; today the leftist states of America are the only ones that support him.
In his arrest it is known that Castillo was going to the Mexican embassy to request asylum and that AMLO would have agreed to his protection, but Peruvian citizens prevented him.
After a political crisis broke out in Peru with the attempt to dissolve Parliament by Pedro Castillo, Mexico, Colombia, Bolivia and Argentina They issued a joint statement to show their support and ask that the guarantees and human rights of the former Peruvian president be respected; however, the message released by the Government of Mexico presented a serious flag error.
And it is that the issue has crossed borders with almost all the governments of the world, who have pointed out and reproached Castillo’s acts for trying to “touch the democratic institutions” of his country, but this fragment of America has been the exception, accusing that the former Peruvian president was the victim of harassment by his adversaries.
“Why don’t they like Castillo? Because he is a teacher from a town in the highlands of Peru, he is not a fifi. So, they have never accepted it, because they like democracy when it suits them,” AMLO has expressed in multiple morning conferences.
This position has been reflected in the Mexico-Peru diplomatic relationship, since the Mexican government has not expressed its recognition of the mandate of Dina Boluarte, who assumed the presidency with the dismissal of Pedro Castillo.
What he did do was join forces with leftist states to express his support for the Peruvian after many demonstrations took place in that country against his removal and arrest.
“President Castillo Terrones, from the day of his election, was the victim of undemocratic harassment, in violation (…) of the American Convention on Human Rights”.
“We urge those who make up the institutions to refrain from reversing the popular will expressed with free suffrage,” read in the statement issued by the four nations.
Government of Mexico disapproves of geography: they confuse the Argentine flag in an official statement
As can be seen, the area of Mexican government press had a geographic slip. The shared document, instead of generating “social and activist awareness” for the Peruvian crisis, generated endless criticism on social networks.
And it is that the agency placed the Guatemalan flag instead of the Argentine banner.
Each country issued its own statement and only Mexico had the highest error; Although this was corrected shortly after, the original version was marked by Internet users, journalists and public figures.
In addition to that, the Guatemalan flag was not the only error in the letter, since it presented various editorial errors that changed the word “president” to “president”.
