Consumer priorities
“Consumption habits changed post-pandemic and now there are new considerations and habits,” shared Pablo Castellanos, research director of Google Mexico.
According to the study, the main criterion when buying a product is price (75%), followed by quality (70%), ease of purchase (49%), previous experience with the brand (45%) and the possibility of buying online (29%).
These figures contrast with the study on online sales in Mexico 2023 carried out by the Mexican Association of Online Sales (AMVO), in which the main motivation for buying online is that they receive their purchases at home (58%), followed by saving time and transfer (49%).
On the other hand, consumers do more research before buying a product. The Google survey also revealed that nine out of 10 Mexicans carry out research before purchasing a product or service. 46% do it through physical stores, 42% through Google and 38% on YouTube.
This is especially relevant for Generation Z, who consider brand reputation and reviews to be essential before purchasing a product or service.
In turn, Google shared that these are the main future consumer priorities:
In addition to faster and more convenient purchases, the study showed that Mexicans will look for new payment methods. This had already been highlighted by the AMVO study, where they revealed that there was a growth in payment for other non-banking methods, such as installment purchases without a card.
