There had already been several rumors on networks that Google plans to finish with Stadiaits video game service, and that’s why it addressed a number of them this week, as they suggested the tech company’s Google Stadia platform was on its last leg and would be shut down by the end of this summer.
This rumor prompted people to ask Google if this would be the case or not, to which the official Google account Google Stadia responded by saying there were no plans to shut down the service, which is reassuring for those who use Google Stadia frequently, though it’s worth acknowledging that a shutdown announcement is unlikely to be shared via a simple Twitter response.
That’s why naysayers cited the rocky launch and the platform’s progress since launch assessing the rumor, while others pointed out that Google had already laid out plans for the platform for a period of time spanning several months, the rumor in question came from an account dedicated to cataloging the services terminated by Google, and there are more than we imagined.
So it also caused some to be skeptical of the rumor in addition to the fact that it was a friend of a friend, making it less serious: “An old co-worker and friend of mine, he’s now one of the regional managers at Google. He’s actually the one who helped me get started with Stadia. They had a pretty big seminar for employees/retailers in California last weekend, And long story short, Google is starting their exit plan. They didn’t have an exact end-of-service date for the end of the summer.”
The rumor went on to suggest that subscribers would be informed of the service shutdown before that happened with refunds offered for the last month of service, which is why a Twitter user asked the Google Stadia account if the platform was shutting down, where Google said that is not the case:
“Stadia isn’t shutting down. Rest assured, we’re always working to bring more great games to the platform and to Stadia Pro.”then the account followed up with a tweet of its own where it mocked the initial rumor while announcing a free game available through Stadia.
