In 2023, the Save The Children organization will celebrate 50 years working for the protection and dignity of children in Mexico.
Since 1973 they have managed to promote education, health and nutrition programs, protection, and political advocacy actions.
The institution is a benchmark for activism, even supporting the first line of care in emergencies such as in the earthquakes of 1985 and 2017.
The humanitarian organization Save the Children (STC) performed a red carpet at the Papalote Children’s Museum to live a unique culinary experience and honor all those who silently donated time, publicity, voice and money to strengthen the education of children in Mexico.
“Education as a fundamental pillar” is the flag that this year brought together more than 450 people at a dinner donated by five of the country’s greatest and most famous chefs, who with time, supplies and effort, made possible the fundraising event that seeks to guarantee that girls and children humanitarian protection, educational quality and equal access to opportunities.
And it is that, through a five-course dinner, the chef Edward Garcia, of Maximum; the chef Elena Reygadas, of Rosette; the chef Enrique Olvera, of Pujol; the chef Gabriela Camara, of countersea; and the Chef Jair Tellez of MeroToro, managed to promote an auction of experiences to a group of Mexican business elite.
The Dinner in Red 2022 unfolded as the fundraising gala that Save The Children is always used to offering, on this occasion with a fixed goal: to support the educational development of children.
“La Cena en Rojo is the largest fundraising event carried out by Save the Children, it is a moment where our guests enjoy a great gastronomic experience at the hands of the best Chefs in Mexico, while supporting a noble cause ”, said Jesús de Juan, President of the Council of Save the Children in Mexico.
About, Maripina Menendez Carbajal, CEO of Save the Children Mexico and columnist for this medium, exclusively shared his concern for extending the political and social agenda on child protection issues, a matter where, he considers, the country has a long way to go.
“We have a great need to transform culturally and raise awareness of the way in which the world and particularly our country, in such difficult contexts, have to see children differently and treat them as the center of the most important thing that we have. as a species”.
Save the Children began the gastronomic event with a red carpet that raised funds with the sale of places and auction of tourist experiences, for the benefit of children, since since 2017 it has managed to guarantee the protection and support of more than 20 thousand migrant children , as well as providing 100 thousand meals to daughters and sons of agricultural day laborers in Sinaloa.
Now, with an action, it seeks to counteract the ravages of the health and economic crises that affect the world, where the Covid-19 left a serious educational lag and almost 2.3 million children and adolescents between 3 and 18 years old without completing their cycle. school due to lack of resources or because you had to work (INEGI-EcovidEd, 2021).
Without giving exact accumulated figures, the donations collected by the organization will allow children to have a safe return to school, through the Save the Children intervention model that consists of caring for their mental health, promoting lifestyles health, teacher training, as well as political advocacy actions that promote the continuity of the full-time school program and the promotion of adequate public budgets to guarantee quality education in the country.
Strategic allies: impact and work at Save The Children
Together with the five most renowned chefs in the country, who cooked for the 450 gala guests for free, Save The Children reiterated the support of its ambassadors, among whom were Benny Ibarra, Odalys Ramírez, Patricio Borghetti and Ingrid Coronado.

Artists such as Jan Hendrix Ivonne Domenge joined the cause, as well as luxury brands such as Bvlgari, Daniel Espinosa, Chablé Hotels and Grupo Hotelero Santa Fe, who donated pieces and experiences in an auction led by Morton Subastas.
Likewise, Save the Children awarded recognition to its Corporate Strategic Allies, such as Accenture, Fundación Alsea, BCG, Fundación FEMSA, Fundación Pepsico, Fundación Lego, Mondelez, P&G, RIU Hotels, Sanofi and Seguros Monterrey NY Life, companies that supported the organization’s work with long-term projects that had a transformative impact in favor of children in Mexico.
