Like every year, Samsung holds its annual event, the Galaxy Unpacked, where it presents its new members of its acclaimed Galaxy S family. Finally, after several leaks, we finally meet the new Galaxy S22, S22+ and S22 Ultra. These brand new devices come with an eco-friendly design, charge up to 45W and a more noticeable design than ever.
GALAXY S22 and S22+ – NEW DESIGN AND A DISPLAY BUILT FOR GAMING
Samsung added three new models to its new Galaxy S series, each with its own peculiarities, but we are going to talk about them separately. Let’s start with the standard and plus versions. As can be seen with the naked eye, the new Galaxy S22 and S22+ arrive with a design very similar to that of its predecessor, although with some differences.
Both the Galaxy S22 and its Plus version have a Flat design, that is to say that its edges are flat, let us remember that with the launch of the S21 Samsung said goodbye to the Edge screen. On the back of both devices we find an almost identical design to its predecessor, although in this new generation the camera module is no longer gold but the same color as the rest of the body.
Regarding the size of the screen of these two devices, the standard version has a 6.1-inch display, while the plus version amounts to 6.6 inches with a Full HD + resolution. Both have Dynamic AMOLED 2X technology on their screen and come with a 120Hz refresh rate. However, the novelty is that both smartphones will have a t240 Hz touch sampling handle within game mode, without a doubt a great leap for Samsung in terms of gaming.
An interesting detail within the design of the new Galaxy S22 and S22+ is that in the standard version we see a reduction in size and weight. On the side of the Galaxy S22 we have a size of 146 x 70.6 x 7.6mm and a weight of 168g, while the dimensions of the S21 are , while 151.7 x 71.2 x 7.9mm and 169g . For the Plus version, the reduction was not so noticeable in terms of size but in its weight, going from 161.5 x 75.6 x 7.8 mm and 200 grams that the Galaxy S21 + had to 157.4 x 75.8 x 7.6 mm and 196 grams the new Galaxy S22+.
In terms of hardware, both devices have a snapdragon 8 gen 1 processor built with 4nm technology and is accompanied by 8GB RAM (something that has not changed from its predecessor) and will have options of 128 and 256GB of internal storage. Regarding the battery, the Galaxy S22 is equipped with 3,700mAh with 25W charging, while the Galaxy S22+ has a 4,500mAh capacity with 45W charging. Of course, both devices have wireless charging at 15W and Wireless PowerShare.
GALAXY S22 ULTRA – A GALAXY NOTE UNDERCOVER IS THE END OF THE NOTE SERIES COMING?
Moving on to the big brother of the new Samsung devices, we have the Galaxy S22 Ultra or Galaxy Note? Despite the fact that the South Korean company always maintains an identical aesthetic, with minimal differences, this year the family is divided and the Ultra version arrives with a design very similar to that of the Note line.
With a 6.8-inch screen with a QHD + resolution and Dynamic AMOLED 2X technology, we find curved edges, that is, in this new version Samsung returns to the Edge screen again. But a detail that does not go unnoticed is that the new Galaxy S22 Ultra on its back has a style very similar to that of the Note Series.
However, another detail in its design, and that we cannot overlook, is that although the Galaxy S21 had compatibility with the S-Pen, the Ultra version of the new Samsung flagships already brings the S-Pen with it. . Undoubtedly, it is a useful accessory for many and not so much for others, but for those who want to use it, the advantage is that it will already be included.
But continuing with the design, again we find a reduction in weight and size, being insignificant, but perhaps marking a tendency to incorporate and provide more in a smaller space. As for the refresh rate of the screen, we will also have a native 120Hz, which will surely be adaptable according to the content that we visualize, and we will also have a t240Hz touch sampling handle in gaming mode.
Finally, when it comes to its processor, we have a snapdragon 8 gen 1 chipset accompanied by 8GB RAM and 128GB storage or, we can choose to incorporate a 12GB RAM with options of 256GB, 512GB and 1TB of space. As for the battery, we will have 5000 mAh of charging with 45W charging, 15W wireless charging and Wireless PowerShare.
NEW GENERATION = NEW CAMERA SYSTEM
When it comes to cameras, Samsung is never far behind. On the one hand, the company integrates into the Galaxy S22 and S22+ a main camera made up of three sensors: a 12MP ultra-wide angle with 2.2 aperture and 120° FOV, a 50MP wide-angle lens with Dual-Pixel AF technology, OIS, F1 .8 and FOV 85°; and a 10MP sensor with 3X optical zoom, OIS, 2.4 aperture and 36 FOV. As for its secondary camera, it is micro-perforated on the screen and has 10MP, F2.2 and an angular aperture of 80 degrees. .
Instead, the biggest jump can be seen in the Galaxy S22 Ultra, the main camera of this device is made up of four sensors. On the one hand we have a 12MP ultra wide angle with a 2.2 aperture and a 120 degree viewing angle; and a 108MP wide angle with Dual Pixel AF, F1.8 and 85 degrees of vision. In addition, we will have two 10MP telephoto lenses, one with 3X optical zoom, F2.4 and 36° FOV, and the other with 10X optical zoom, 4.9 focal aperture and 11° angle. The latter It will also have the possibility of performing a 100x digital zoom with AI technology.
YOUR GALAXY ALWAYS CONNECTED
Of course, and as expected, the new Galaxy S22 will arrive with the Android 12 operating system and the new version of Samsung software: One UI 4.1. In addition, they will have the Samsung Pay payment system through NFC and sensors: accelerometer, barometer, ultrasonic fingerprint sensor, gyroscope, geomagnetic, hall sensor, light sensor and proximity.
The Galaxy S22 also have 5G, LTE, Wi-Fi E6, Wi-Fi Direct and Bluetooth v5.2 connectivity. And of course, these devices have resistance to water and dust thanks to their IP68 certification.
AN ECO-FRIENDLY DESIGN
A not minor detail of these new Galaxy S22 is that Samsung reported that these new devices are built with recycled material. In order to reduce the environmental footprint that humans are leaving on the planet and as a method to improve the ecosystem, the South Korean company manufactured the Galaxy Se from abandoned fishing nets.
This program created by Samsung, Galaxy for the Planet, as we mentioned, seeks to address plastic pollution and, above all, the climate crisis. But why fishing nets? According to the company, each year more than 640,000 tons of fishing nets are abandoned at sea. But in addition to polluting the waters, they also get entangled in the animals that live in the ocean, causing the irreparable loss of species and also affect the marine territory, including coral reefs, so for the South Korean company: “collect and reuse these networks” is a priority.
