In a recent interview for Gusgri’s podcast, “Edgar”, the boy who went viral due to “Edgar’s fall”, told what it was like to work with Gamesa, after his video placed him as one of the most watched characters on social media.

Since the arrival of the smartphoneseverything changed in terms of the strategies of marketing digital. At least, this is how Daniel Martínez, Marketing and Expansion Manager of Creditaria México, makes it known:

On the other hand, it should be noted that the adoption of these devices helped the very fact that, in Mexico and other parts of the world, the number of users connected to the web grew, a process that, in the same way, was favored thanks to the arrival of the pandemic,

According to data from the National Survey on Availability and Use of Information Technologies in Homes (ENDUTIH)which has been carried out jointly by the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI), the Ministry of Communications and Transportation (SCT), and the Federal Institute of Telecommunications (IFT), points out that, in 2020, the year in which the pandemic became official worldwide, a population of 84.1 million internet users was estimatedwhich represent 72.0 percent of the population aged six or over.

This is not everything, because, according to what was published in the Statista study, Statista Key Market Indicators, in 2022, it was estimated that approximately 98.6 million people in Mexico had access to the internetwhich represents an increase of around 16 million compared to the number of registered users in 2021.

However, by 2006, the situation with the Internet was extremely different, since, In Mexico alone, there was a community of Internet users of just over 20 millionan extremely lower figure, compared to the context in which we operate today.

However, in those years, it can be said that YouTube was the simile of TikTok today, since the Google platform was in charge of making the videos shared by Internet users go viral.

In the midst of this context, the case of “Edgar” arose, known for the video titled “Edgar’s fall”, which came to gain significant fame both in Mexico and in other parts of the world.

17 years have passed since that video and, now, although said viral content continues to be remembered, its protagonist is no longer the same one that came out of social networks; However, this has served so that, in an interview on Gusgri’s podcast, “Edgar” told a little about what it was like to work with a brand like Gamesa that, taking advantage of the viralization of the video, hired the young man, giving rise to something that today we live day by day: the collaborations of brands with internet personalities.

“Gamesa gave me the scholarship in secondary school. They gave me a computer, it was the most top at that time. The first laptop that came out with a camera, I had it. Those things were adding up. That video came out again in South America and they gave me another wool that is not so much, so much, but for a ‘huerco’ (a child), well yes”, said “Edgar”, who added that, due to his collaboration with Gamesa, received between 40 and 50 thousand pesos.
