The Fourth Fair of the Neighborhoods in CDMX is organized by the Historic Center Trust of Mexico City.
The inauguration was yesterday, and will run until the 23rd of this month, with different cultural activities.
The Fair seeks to rescue the oldest traditions among the inhabitants of the neighborhoods, through their contributions that are part of the cultural heritage of humanity.
Mexican culture is, among all those in the world, one of the richest and most diverse, and that is why various organizations have found in the celebration a way to rescue their traditions; in this vein, the Fideicomiso Centro Histórico of Mexico City will hold the Fourth Fair of the Neighborhoods of the Historic Center.
This will take place from until October 23 of this year and has already successfully celebrated its first opening day. Its main headquarters are located on the esplanade of Plaza 23 de Mayo, located on the streets of Belisario Domínguez and Brasil, in the La Lagunilla neighborhood.
To talk in more depth about what this event represents, Dr. Enriqueta Valdés Herrera, Coordinator of Special Projects, and Anabelí Contreras Julián, Coordinator of Promotion and Dissemination, told Merca2.0 about their impressions of this fourth edition.
For this work, the Historical Center Trust of Mexico City is dedicated, in the words of the spokeswomen, “abFind the right people to curate the exhibitors at the Fair, request the budget to carry it out, personally invite all the exhibitors, hold meetings with them to establish the rules and learn about their concerns, contract the project, hold several meetings to agree the theme and design of the image, defining the place for it to be held, requesting all permits, promoting and disseminating the event, as well as organizing the inauguration and supervising each of the steps that are carried out; Finally, evaluate the results.
Fourth Fair of the Neighborhoods in CDMX; this is how culture is lived
The Historical Center Trust of Mexico City has organized this event again, with the intention of celebrating the multiculturalism of the Barrios in the great Mexican city. These are the places, being the heart of CDMX, that house the oldest traditions, ranging from gastronomy to crafts.
The event’s mission is to highlight the cultural value of each neighborhood. Likewise, the Fair seeks to “create mechanisms to highlight and promote the roots and identity traits of the neighborhoods of the Historic Center of Mexico City.” The rescue of historical memory is paramount.
Among the participating neighborhoods will be Chinatown, Colonia Guerrero, La Lagunilla, La Merced, Primer Cuadro, Regina, San Juan and Tepito.
As commented by Dr. Enriqueta Valdés and the Promotion Coordinator, Anabelí Contreras, the event has the support of staff of 23 people who rotate in shifts throughout the Fair and will aim to bring together at least 6 thousand people from different parts of the Mexican Republic. This has represented a point of return to face-to-face attendance, since during the pandemic there were certain difficulties that prevented direct contact for these events:
“In the Historical Center Trust of Mexico City, like all public entities of the Government of Mexico City, we continue to work and in the case of cultural events we go, as far as possible, to virtuality. The Barrios Fair in 2020 was carried out digitally, a web page was set up, we uploaded content to our social networks and we put up posters in the participating traditional businesses that reopened with limited capacity at that time of the pandemic“.
It was also asked about the management of the advertising section, for which it was commented that there are important differences with respect to private initiative campaigns, as well as in the way in which licenses are obtained to use a certain space:
“Being a Public Trust dependent on the Government of the City, our dissemination is through Citizen Communication of the Government of Mexico City and we do not work with any agency. Social networks are essential to spread our work, as well as relevant aspects of the tangible and intangible heritage of the Historic Center. To themselvesPermissions for the use of public space are requested before different instances such as the Secretary of Government of Mexico City and the corresponding mayor’s office, in this case it has been the Cuauhtémoc”.
Finally, they point out that this type of cultural event does not have an assigned budget because “No amount is disbursed since the dissemination materials are made in the Historic Center Trust.” What is clear is that in terms of logistics “you hire orAn experienced company, which carries out the entire executive assembly project, in accordance with the regulations, standards and recommendations established by the different instances of the Government of Mexico City”.
The Fourth Fair of the Neighborhoods of the Historic Center is part of a retrospective journey into the history and legends of the first neighborhoods of CDMX.
