Such was the intensity of Cillian Murphy’s preparation for oppenheimer that the actor lived very little on a personal level with his co-stars. This was revealed by Emily Blunt and Matt Damon, who appear alongside the interpreter in the film directed by Christopher Nolan.
In an interview with PEOPLEBlunt said that when the tape was in the process of filming, the people who make up the cast would get together between takes to have dinner and share a moment of recreation:
“We were all in the same hotel in the middle of the New Mexico desert. We only had each other. Matt and I were roommates and we’d say, ‘Let’s go to dinner.
But Murphy always avoided attending such dinners, as he was so focused on building his starring role as J. Robert Oppenheimer, a scientist who helped develop history’s first nuclear weapons. These were the words of the actress:
“The volume of what he had to take on and carry on his shoulders is so monumental. Of course she did not want to come to dinner with us ».
For his part, Damon agreed that Cillian Murphy’s challenge was very big, which is why the protagonist was dealing with a lot of things at the time:
“Could not [acompañarnos]. Her brain was just full.”
In the same interview, Murphy opened up about the great responsibility it was for him to play such an important figure in science, politics and society:
“You know when you have those big roles, that responsibility, it feels like it’s kind of overwhelming.”
A few months ago, the star spoke about how much it meant to him to get the leading role in a production directed by Nolan, especially after collaborating with the filmmaker in supporting roles. This was what he said:
“I’ve always told Chris, in public and in private, that if I’m available and he wants me to be in a movie, I’ll be there. I don’t really care about the size of the paper. But deep down, secretly, I was desperate to play a leading role for him.”
oppenheimerwith Cillian Murphy, Emily Blunt, Matt Damon and more, arrives in Mexican theaters on July 21, 2023.
