If you have tried to use the WiFi access point, but have not been able to because it does not work or gives you any type of error, we are going to see several options to get it to work as before.
The WiFi access point is the system that Windows 10 has so that we can share the network with any other device, that is, our computer would act as a router for everyone else. It is a good option if we need a device to have Internet and the signal that is normally used does not arrive with enough power.
Obviously it is a system to use from time to time, because if this lack of signal becomes permanent, it is best to buy a real repeater and not use the computer continuously. It is an option not widely used by users, but it can be a interesting way to share the network with others in a time of urgency.
In many cases it has stopped working suddenly and for no apparent reason, so it is interesting to know what we can do if this happens to try to solve the problem.
Solutions for WiFi access point:
Update Windows and drivers
The first thing we have to do is see if we have our operating system fully up to date, since they may have sent a update to fix our problem and we do not have it installed.
Perhaps from Microsoft they have detected the failure and we have a patch to install to fix the problem that arises when using the Access point.
As for the drivers, the same thing happens, since it may be an error because a driver may be outdated or corrupt. This could cause the computer’s WiFi system to stop working properly, thus affecting the access point.
That is why it is important to have the fully updated drivers to the latest version sent by each of the manufacturers, since otherwise it may happen that parts of the operating system begin to give problems.
Restart the router
It may be the case that the router has accumulated so much data that it begins to give us connection problems and, therefore, the access point is also affected.
This type of router errors will be solved turning it off for 10 seconds or more. We can use the off button that these types of devices usually have or directly unplug it from the electrical network.
After the seconds that we have told you before, we turn it on again and we test, to verify that the mistake is no longer being made. It is clear that, if now everything works correctly, it was the router that caused all these failures.
These types of failures are more common than you can imagine, since, by leaving the router on for days, the data accumulates in its memory and that can lead to the system becomes corrupt.
Are you sure we are using the correct password?
It may be the case that the password we are trying to enter it’s not the right for the access point, so it is best to reconfigure it.
For that we must re-create the access point and thus make sure one hundred percent that we have the correct password. To do this, we must do the following:
- We click on the icon that appears in the task bar of our connection and when we see Coverage area, right click on this button to enter Go to settings.
- At this moment we click on Edit, to then choose the name of the WiFi access network and select the password.
- Once we have everything covered, it is time to click on Keep, which will cause us to see an icon with the name of our network.
- In this way we will already have a new password and we can connect any device to that network.
Disable antivirus
Another option that can cause the WiFi access point to not work correctly is the antivirus, since it may be the case that said software understands that the action we are trying to perform is not safe and that is why cut all kinds of possibility.
Some antivirus programs consider that WiFi access can endanger the integrity of the network and that is why they deactivate any possibility of operation of this system.
The best will be disable antivirus and check if the access problem has been solved with this action.
If the answer is positive, we will be clear about the culprit that it does not work, so we must create an exception within the antivirus to allow this type of task.
Let’s clean up the DNS
Some users have managed to solve the problem by cleaning the DNS.
The way to carry out this action is much simpler than you think and it can help us to solve, once and for all, the problem of WiFi access, if all the previous options have not worked for you.
- Right-click on the Windows Start menu symbol and choose Windows PowerShell (Administrator).
- Now is the time we must write 3 commands and hit Enter after each of them:
- ipconfig / release
- ipconfig / flushdn
- ipconfig / renew
- Then we must re-enter PowerShell (Administrator) and retype several commands without forgetting hit enter after each one of them.
- ipconfig / flushdns
- nbtstat -r
- netsh int ip reset
- netsh winsock reset
- Immediately we restart the computer for the changes to take effect and we check if the bug has already been fixed.
With everything we have told you, you should have solved the problem of not being able to use the WiFi access point on your Windows 10 computer.
As you have seen, it is not difficult to solve this error and thus be able to use our PC as a repeater so that the signal reaches another device with greater force.
