They hope to develop a secure and reliable system with blockchain technology that guarantees the veracity and inalterability of the information associated with traceability.
In Galicia-Spain, the Fishing Ship Owners Cooperative of the Port of Vigo (ARVI), the CETMAR Foundation Sea Technology Center and the Marine Research Institute (IIM-CSIC), announced a partnership to develop the blockchain project ‘Fishing 4.0’.
The objective of the project that will be carried out over the next year and a half, as reported, will be to develop a safe and reliable system that guarantees the veracity and inalterability of the information associated with the traceability, food safety and sustainability of fishery products. Likewise, during the development time, a platform based on 4.0 technologies, specifically blockchain and the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), will be implemented on a pilot scale to validate the operation of this solution in three fisheries, from the capture of the product to its first sale.
“The adoption of the blockchain system by the fishing sector will provide, apart from security and inviolability of information, an opportunity to reinforce transparency and thereby improve the efficiency of the processes and the image of the fishing sector within the food market, compared to consumers increasingly aware and demanding in environmental matters and about responsible, healthy and safe consumption”explained the promoters of the project expressed through a statement.
In this way, the project will be led by ARVI, however, the specific fishing companies that will collaborate have not yet been selected to demonstrate the operation of the blockchain platform in the three mentioned use cases.
Finally, it is worth mentioning that the project will have a budget of just over 695,000 Euros from the financing of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan, and the Next Generation EU European funds, within the framework of Royal Decree 685/2021. , from August 3.
